1. Scope of Work:
This statement of work (SOW) requires the services of an Industrial Hygiene firm to test for the presence of lead onboard T-AKE Class vessels in suspect paint with an X-ray fluorescence analyzer. Sample points and positive/negative readings will be annotated on a Lead Paint Map.
2. Background:
During the USNS MATTHEW PERRY (T-AKE 9) Post Shakedown Availability, paint with high lead concentrations was found to have been applied, pre-delivery, in elevator pits and bilge pockets.
Subsequent investigation by the manufacturer has determined the paint with high lead content to be International Paint 262 clear-base, dark grey paint. Paint with high lead content was installed, pre-delivery, on USNS AMELIA EARHART (T-AKE 6), USNS CARL BRASHEAR (T-AKE 7), USNS WALLY SCHIRRA (T-AKE 8), USNS MATTHEW PERRY (T-AKE 9), and USNS CHARLES DREW (T-AKE 10).
