- Design and build drainage system to lower the water table around the building
- New waterproofing on exterior face of perimeter foundations
- Pressure test all drainage pipes and replace defective sections.
- Correct all roofing and provide 10 year warranty
3.1 Drainage system around the building
The contractor shall hire the services of a civil engineer licensed in Bulgaria to design a system to lower the water table around the new construction and to divert away from the building any underwater stream. To guarantee this objective, it is the basis of design to provide a French drain system around the critical areas of the building, which should be not less than 60% of its perimeter.
Conceptual design for drainage around approximately 60% of the perimeter of the building

Required drainage around the building. Level and repair all grounds surrounded the building up to a distance of 4 meters measured perpendicularly to the outer façade of the building. These new surfaces shall be designed to:
o Provide esthetically pleasant grounds o Divert surface water away from the building o Divert ground water towards the new drain system o Provide paved/concrete access to all entries to the building
OHASIS ID 39837 Page 14 of 50 Version: 002
Basis of design for drain system:
- Using 400 mm slotted PVC pipes to absorb water from ground
- PVC pipe surrounded by geotextile to avoid filling the slots with material from the gravel
- Gravel encapsulated or surrounded by geotextile
- All gravel to be used shall be poorly graded gravel, or gravel of approximately the same size
(minimum 5 cm)
- Gravel to extend from the slotted PVC pipe to the surface, or to very near the surface to provide a continuous barrier to protect the building foundations from any underground water.
This gravel barrier to be minimum 1 meter wide.
- Install slotted PVC pipes minimum 30 cm below the lowest point of the structural foundations.
- With concrete manhole for inspection and maintenance of pipes at:
o Maximum 25 meters o Every change of direction o Every change of type of pipe o Every connection of more than 2 pipes
- Non-slotted PVC pipes shall be PVC pipes with minimum 300 mm internal dimeter.
- Effluent water or drained water shall be diverted towards the cliff to become a natural water spring
- Level and repair all grounds surrounded the building up to a distance of 4 meters measured perpendicularly to the outer façade of the building. These new surfaces shall be designed to:
o Provide esthetically pleasant grounds o Divert surface water away from the building o Divert ground water towards the new drain system o Provide paved/concrete access to all entries to the building

3.2 Waterproofing on Exterior Face of Perimeter Foundations
The contractor shall excavate around the perimeter of the entire building to provide adequate waterproofing on the exterior façade of the building. The works include:
- Excavating up to the lowest part of the foundations. This is approximately 2 meters deep from the finished grade elevation.
- Leave the footings to dry up one month, or until the civil engineer hired by the contractor certifies that the footings are sufficiently dry.
- Provide bituminous coat and bituminous sheets, recommended by the manufacturer to be used for concrete foundation systems. This shall be same treatment required by Bulgaria regulations for treatment of exterior walls of basements.

3.3 Pressure Test Drainage lines and Repair Defective Sections
The contractor shall pressure test all drainage lines with static pressure. The contractor shall close the sewer line in the first manhole outside the building and then they shall fill the pipes with water up to floor level. The water shall remain at the same level for 24 hours.
In case there is a leak, the contractor shall find it with selection process, by testing different sections of pipes until the defect is found.
For estimating purposes, the contractor shall estimate that they will need to replace/restored 1 meter of pipe is two different locations, both under perfectly finished tiled flooring. This will require performing destructive excavations inside the operational building, repairing the pipes and restoring all surfaces to their original condition.
Drawings required to obtain the construction permit with piping information are available for consultation in the Municipality of Etropole prior coordination with the US Office of Defense Cooperation Ms. Terzieva.
The contractor shall estimate that once all repair works are completed, they will need to repeat the pressure test in presence of the Contracting Officer Representative, or the test shall be witnessed and certified by independent Bulgarian testing agency.
