Request for Clarification

SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: 216

PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO: 4.1.1

TITLE: 8 CYLINDER MAIN DIESEL ENGINE 36,000 HOUR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE REV-

QUESTION #16:

1.Par 3.1 list the items to be worked but no total surface area for these items is provided. Please provide a total surface area for these items.
2.Par 7.10 direct to abrade all other surfaces; would hand sanding satisfy this requirement or would grit sweep blasting be required?
3.Can the coatings in Par 7.12.3 through 7.12.7 be applied via brush and roll as long as the proper DFT is obtained?

ANSWER:

1. The Work Item Reads Correctly. The 36K OH only removes 1 Head. Only One Head will be shipped. You will use that head in its place and overhaul the removed and send back to Norfolk W143 Warehouse once OEM is done. See Table for Work Cards on Page 12. Task 172.

172

SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: 541

PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO: 4.2, 7

TITLE: EMERGENCY FIRE PUMP NO 2 OVERHAUL

QUESTION #17:

Statement of Work paragraphs do not direct contractor to remove or reinstall pump.

Also paragraph 7.1.3 directs contractor to replace the rotating assembly with the material listed in 4.2, but 4.2 does list any rotating assembly.

Please confirm scope is to shop overhaul the pump only. No removal or reinstallation.

Please also advise if rotating assembly will be provided or required.

ANSWER:

1. The WI is correct. The pump is a spare. We will provide the pump, Contractor OH, return to ship’s force. Spare Pump.

2. What is meant by the Rotating Assembly, you will have to separate the casing, remove the rotating assembly, take out the Bearing, seals and wear rings, clean the assembly and ready for newly provided Bearings, Seals and Wear Rings. There is not a new or separate rotating assembly. Just replacing the provided material on the Rotating assembly

SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: 0021

PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO: 2.2.1

TITLE: Clean and Gas Free Tanks, Voids, Cofferdams, and Spaces

QUESTION #18:

Para. 2.2.1, USNS Matthew Perry (T-AKE 9) List of Applicable Tanks, Voids and Cofferdams – Please clarify what the “X” indicates on the tank list enclosure. Should we assume all tanks are being cleaned?

ANSWER:

1. WI 0021 Table – only the items with an “X” are to be done. For Example. The Fuel Oil Storage is required to be Clean and Gas Free and Safe for Hot Work. The Fuel Oil Overflow Tank is not to be touched. SO whatever box is checked for whatever tank, that action is to be taken.
