CARGO REFERIGERATION SYSTEM FLUSH

1.0 ABSTRACT

1.1 This item describes the requirement to flush the Cargo Refrigeration System (Brine) and replace the brine system valves.

2.0 REFERENCES/ENCLOSURES

2.1 References:

2.1.1 NAVSEA Dwg No. 516-7488756, Cargo Refrigeration Secondary Coolant Circ System Diagram.

3.0 ITEM LOCATION/DESCRIPTION

3.1 Location/Quantity:

3.1.1 The Cargo Refrigeration System (Brine) pumps are located in the AMR, frame 65. Brine capacity is approximately 3000 gallons.

4.0 GOVERNMENT FURNISHED EQUIPMENT/MATERIAL/SERVICES:

4.1 LUG Style Valve Quantity = (15), PN: ACRIS IL-31KF/S9, 6" Butterfly Valve Lug 150# DI FLGD; ACRIS A.

5.0 NOTES

5.1 Any and all hazardous waste must be disposed of following all local, state, and federal regulations.

6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS

6.1 All work shall be performed to the satisfaction of the Master, Chief Engineer, and the Port Engineer.

7.0 STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED

7.1 Fill the Brine System with potable water.

7.1.1 Using references 2.1.1 for guidance, the contractor shall accomplish a system flush of all piping surfaces. The system flush shall be accomplished using potable water to fill the system and circulating the water using Ships Pumps to flush through the system piping. Ships Force shall determine flush time and if additional flush is necessary by sampling flush water.

7.1.2 Unless otherwise identified by Ships Force, fill and drain location shall be the AMR at the Brine Pumps. Contractor is responsible for all connections to/from the fill/drain connections, hoses, tanks, and pumps for removal of flushing water.

7.1.3 Prior to flushing the contractor shall develop and submit a Process Control Procedure (PCP) that will state in detail the contractor’s procedure for accomplishing the required system flush, for approval by the MSCREP.

7.1.4 Contractor shall include the cost of removal and disposal of all hazardous waste products and solutions. All hazardous waste products shall be removed and disposed of in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the work item 023 within this work package.

7.1.5 Contractor shall be responsible for replacing any system components damaged by the accomplishment of the system flush.

7.2 Replace Total number of 15 valves, As an estimate, in the brine system at the discretion of the Ship Force Chief Engineer.

7.3 Inspection/Testing:

7.3.1 All work shall be completed to the satisfaction of the MSCREP and Chief Engineer.

8.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: NONE
