REQUEST FOR SPECIFICATION CLARIFICATION
NAME OF CONTRACTOR: _________
SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: ______404_______________
PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO: ____Various________________
TITLE: _________________________________________________________________
QUESTION:
1) Spec calls to re-use existing compass. A BAKER-LYMAN compass is NOT COMPATIBLE with the compass mounting system in the SPERRY NAVIPOL-1 Binnacle. Please provide direction.
2) Spec calls to re-use existing Binnacle Hood, quadrantal spheres and Flinders bar. This is not possible with a NAVIPOL-1 binnacle: hoods are very different sizes, Quadrantal spheres would need extra machining and the NAVIPOL Fliners Bar tube is welded to the binnacle.
3) Spec calls to 'crop' the existing binnacle foundation from deck and to weld on a new foundation. Is is acceptable t MSC to fabricate and install an adapter plate which will bolt to existing deck foundation and in turn will bolt to the new binnacle.
ANSWER:
1) Spec has been revised, to reflect a Ritchie Compass as compass was recently replaced and the new binnacle required by the spec is the SPERRY NAVIPOL-III, complete with Flinders Bar, heeling magnet, B and C adjusting magnets, quadrantal spheres, reflector tube, mirror head, main and back-up binnacle light, dimmer for binnacle light for bridge, 2 bulbs, and azimuth device.
2) It is not acceptable to use an adapter plate and the existing Foundation. Contractor shall renew the foundation due to wastage of the existing foundation.
3) Replace existing Work Item 404 with the attached Work Item 404 Rev A.
