Question and Answers (Part 2) 24 May 2018

Question 23 - Is the davit insert also intended to be fabricated from 316 SS, or just the davit insert intermediate plate?

Answer 23 - The davit insert is intended to be made of aluminum. The intermediate plate is 316 SS because it is threaded. See Specifications paragraph 3.14 for a list of acceptable materials for the davit insert.

Question 24 - Is davit insert and intermediate plate counted in the 500 lb weight budget in section 3.5?

Answer 24 – No, the davit insert and intermediate plate is not counted in the 500 lb weight budget in section 3.5. (Specifications paragraph 3.5 has been amended to clarify) Question 25- What winch(es) are being considered for this application? We are looking at options for suitable electric winches with a manual override, but not finding a lot of commercial options.

Answer 25 - Commercially available winches are not required.

Question 26 - - Is there a motor being considered for the slew drive identified in section 3.10.3?

Answer 26 - No, there isn’t a particular slew drive required.

Question 27- Where does the 1"x12" round bar mentioned in 3.10.4 (Socket Mount) fit?

Answer 27 - The round bar is to be used to integrate the davit insert into the test platform for the prototype performance testing conducted by the government.

Question 28 -- Is the intention to have the capture head alignment mechanism engaged only during slewing (and disengaged during lifting/lowering)? Or does it need to be engage during concurrent slewing and lifting/lowering operations?

Answer 28 - The capture head alignment mechanism is to be engaged during all operations. Paragraph 3.10.6 of the Specifications has been amended.

Question 29 - - Can further details be provided on the notional capture head alignment mechanism?

Answer 29 - The intent is for the contractor to develop an alignment mechanism that best suits their design.

Question 30 -- Are there notional specifications for the capture head dimensions (i.e. interface radius, span, etc.)

Answer 30 – (See Answer 18) The UUV diameter is 12.75". Information on the UUV can be found at http://www.hydroid.com/remus-600-defense-applications per Section 3.1. The attachment point is a lift bail vertically aligned at the UUV's longitudinal center of gravity. Detailed information on the lift bail and attachment hardware can be made available to the contractor upon award. The span is to be no more than 65". The vertical dimension should match the sketch provided in the solicitation.

Question 31 - Are there requirements for the torque the capture head must withstand?

Answer 31 - The requirement is for the capture head to control and restrict the movement of the UUV. Pertinent boat information for torque calculations: roll angles have been measured up to +/- 20 degrees and pitch angles up to +/-9 degrees. The natural roll period is 2.12 seconds. Paragraph 3.6 of the Specifications has been amended.
