The NBWW seeks qualified consulting firms to develop a two-year monitoring strategy designed to identify and trace human-associated DNA markers related to elevated E. coli concentrations within the North Branch Chicago River watershed. The scope of work includes conducting microbial source tracking investigations across 25 NBWW monitoring sites and incorporating the monitoring strategy into an Illinois EPA Section 604(b) grant application for submission during the contract year. The project encompasses the entire North Branch Chicago River watershed planning boundary. Proposals must be submitted through the Lake County Purchasing Portal by August 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. CST, with written questions due by July 27, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. CST. The contact for this procurement is the Stormwater Management Commission at 847-377-7700 or stormwater@lakecountyil.gov, located at 500 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville, Illinois 60048.

Based on these initial findings, the NBWW is interested in pursuing Illinois EPA Section 604(b) grant funding to expand and implement a more comprehensive microbial source tracking program throughout the watershed. Additional details regarding the project objectives and required tasks are provided in the Scope of Services section.
