Kaibab Lake Campground Project Clarifications based on email questions up through 08/23/2010 and pre-bid site visit 08/17/2010

1. The water, sewer and electric line construction shown on the plans run through the forest in straight lines and do not account for conflicts with trees, other site improvements and rock outcroppings. Are we to assume that an irregular path will be taken to avoid conflicts and be paid by the foot for the installation?

· The water, sewer and electric lines are shown in straight lines. We will allow for some adjustments in the field approved by the COR due to conflicts if necessary. All three items will be paid for the linear feet installed. Contractors should be prepared to remove some trees, etc. to install the utilities.

2. On Sheet 3 (Demolition Plan-West) the dump station and the existing host site are shown to be removed. Is there a sewage holding tank at the dump station that needs to be removed? What type of tank is at the existing host site that needs to be removed? Are the two sites tied together with pipe?

· There are no details for these removals. There are two septic holding tanks that will need to be pumped of waste material and then collapsed in on themselves with a hole punched in the bottom for drainage. The two tanks will need to be demolished to a minimum of 2 feet below existing grade. The two tank locations are very evident as they have vent pipes rising into the air. The existing underground piping may be abandoned in place if it does not interfere with other work.

3. When constructing new campsites and new parking areas, are trees to be removed or will the locations be adjusted to avoid conflicts?

· There will be some tree removal required for the construction of campsites and parking areas. We will do our best to avoid trees if possible through adjustments in the field but the new loop, new spurs and new campsites in loop E will definitely require tree removal.

4. The campground will be closed to the public but we will need to provide day use access to the actual lake. We will allow the contractor to designate the actual parking areas to access the lake. These parking areas shall accommodate up to 20 vehicles including 3 boat trailers.

5. The contractor will be responsible for all construction signing, flaggers and other stuff needed to ensure public safety during construction.

6. If the contractor chooses to use the existing bathrooms designated by the Forest Service they will be responsible for cleaning them on a weekly basis and pumping the waste at the end of the contract or as needed.

7. The contractor and personnel may camp on the site during construction.

8. All slash generated from construction can be piled on site at locations determined by the Forest Service or hauled to the borrow pit. All stumps shall be hauled to the borrow pit. All merchantable timber shall be cut to length and decked in locations determined by the Forest Service.

9. All water needed for the project is the contractor’s responsibility. Only potable drinking water may be used in the existing water storage tank.

10. The existing electrical panel brand is Unicorn Electrical Products.

11. There are 4 new host pedestals for this project. Three (3) are at the relocated host areas and one (1) at the host site near Loop C. They shall be a standard 50 amp RV pedestal. There is no need for a light, water or cable/television jack.

12. The contractor will be responsible for submitting an electrical design and calculations to the government for our review and acceptance. The contractor shall size the feeders per the requirement in NEC chapter 551 with no more than a 3 percent drop from the meter to the pedestal(s). The electrical sheet index on sheet 41 should be disregarded per the requirements above.

13. The new Host storage shed shall contain lights, one outlet and a service disconnect fed from the existing electrical panel near the existing host sites.

14. If additive asphalt items are not added into the base contract all pulverized areas will be still be mixed and re-compacted to provide a stable aggregate surface.

15. 3” Lift depth can be done in one lift.

16. Item # 404(01) – Minor Hot Asphalt Concrete Spurs, 3” depth is for spurs only and is paid by the Ton. This is broken out for government accounting reasons only.(See revised schedule of items)

17. Item # 404(02) – Minor Hot Asphalt Concrete Roads and Spurs, 3” depth is for roads, spurs, and parking areas.(See revised schedule of items)

18. Item # 404(03) – Minor Hot Asphalt Concrete Roads and Spurs, 3” depth covers all remaining asphalt areas including Loop E. (See revised schedule of items).

19. There is no removal of one existing composting toilet building as indicated in some descriptions of work.

20. Please see the revised schedule of items for the entire project.

21. Please see revised sheets 34, 52, and 56.

22. Picture below is of electrical panel at the existing host site.
