2.9.8 ENGINEERED SOIL SUPPORT SYSTEMS

Provide engineered soil support systems (i.e. shoring) as required for the construction of the proposed improvements. The Contractor is responsible for all dewatering necessary for earthwork.

2.9.9 SITE GRADING

Provide site grading that directs storm water runoff away from buildings and structures either by drainage systems or by grading as follows:

a. Finished grades of earth/grass/gravel surfaces adjacent to buildings and structures must slope away from all exterior edges with a minimum slope of 5% for the first 2 meters.

b. Finished grades of paved surfaces adjacent to buildings and structures must slope away from all exterior edges with a minimum slope of 2% for the first 2 meters.

c. Finished grades must not create stagnating water or ponding anywhere on the project site, nor create ponding on adjacent properties. Provide storm improvements if ponding is unavoidable.

d. Set finished floor elevations a minimum of 15 centimeters above finished grade at the perimeter of the building, with the exception of finished grade at entry points.

e. Set building finish floor elevations at a minimum of 30 centimeters above the local 100-year flood level.

Site grading around the building must meet Host Nation accessibility guidelines.

The Contractor must limit proposed landscape slopes to a maximum 4H:1V for grass areas requiring mowing and 2H:1V for non-grass areas, which require non-erodible surface (i.e. rock, shrubs with mulch).

2.10 UTILITIES

This section applies to all project underground utilities located outside the building, including but not limited to, sanitary sewer, water supply, storm drainage, electrical, communications, gas, liquid fuel, and heat. See Sections 5.0-ELECTRICAL & COMMUNICATIONS and Section 6.0-MECHANICAL for additional utility requirements.

Proposed utility main alignments must be at least 3.0 meters from facility or building foundations, except for building connections. Provide horizontal and vertical separation between new and existing utilities for rehabilitation, maintenance, repair or replacement. Provide utility line depths, bedding, and backfill as required by applicable requirements and geotechnical recommendations.

Minimum cover over pipes is 0.6 meters; greater than frost penetration; or sufficient to support imposed dead and live loads for the pipe materials used;

6-Jul-23 Page 15 of 53 whichever is more stringent. Place plastic warning tape along the route of the buried pipe after installation at a height of 0.3 meters above the pipe.

Coordinate all required installation, relocation, improvement and protection of utilities held by third party (e.g. public or private utility). This includes coordination of any work to be performed by the utility owner. Choice of materials and products for utility installation must be coordinated with the utility owner (customer or third party) to ensure proper integration and compliance with existing systems and allow for easy maintenance and repair of the utilities in the future.

Provide utility materials per IBC requirements. Provide corrosion protection for utilities that provides the minimum life expectancy specified in Section 1.0- GENERAL. Any piping or equipment exposed to sunlight must be coated with protective coatings suitable for UV exposure with a minimum expected coating life of 10 years before recoating.

2.10.1 STORM SYSTEM

Provide a gravity storm drainage system to smaller buildings to direct runoff away from improvements, eliminate ponding, and prevent erosion. A pump system is not allowed. The renovated classroom buildings will have a rainwater harvest system added. Provide an overflow to the harvest tank system that will not damage improvements or cause erosion.

Connect building downspouts to splash blocks that drain away from foundations a minimum of 2 meters or to a rainwater collection tank. Collect runoff from other surfaces to a storm water system that will route stormwater away from the site.

Provide a storm drainage system to direct runoff away from improvements and eliminate ponding. For the two classroom buildings, connect building roof gutters and downspouts to match the existing rainwater tanks that currently exist on site.

Locate rainwater harvest tanks out of pathways and windows. For each rainwater tank, provide a spigot at the bottom of each tank. Below the spigot, provide a splash block that will drain water away from building foundations a minimum of 3 meters per site grading requirements. Provide insect screens to all open orifices to the tank system. Provide UV resistant tanks. Provide concrete foundation to support rainwater collection tank and install the bottom of the tank a minimum of 45 centimeters above finish grade. Provide structural tie downs for the tank.

Provide an opening for cleaning and allow access into the tanks. Provide system to divert first flush from the roofs that may be contaminated with dust, animal droppings and dirt so that it does enter the tank.

2.10.2 SANITARY SYSTEM

Provide a new latrine building that follows the design shown on the attached Typical Latrine Plans. Design footprint size of the soak away area of the pit may need to be increased beyond what is typical due to the clayey nature of the site soil.

Rehabilitate the existing latrine buildings as determined to be needed during design.

After installation, test any sanitary lines and structures for leakage and deflection per local codes. Provide test results to the KO. Locate and repair any sections failing to pass the required tests. Repeat the specified tests and inspections on the repaired sections.

2.10.3 WATER SYSTEM

Provide a water system to connect the proposed building to the nearby existing water main. Provide a central water tap system (recommend 4 push button taps on a

6-Jul-23 Page 16 of 53 small concrete slab with 3m runoff) that is plumbed into the municipal water system. Design the system to meet all flow requirements of the facility, including potable water and fire flows. Provide a meter at the water connection point that is accessible by a third-party utility, but within the fence line for security.

All new water distribution piping must have a minimum horizontal separation of 3 m from all new or existing sanitary systems, storm sewers, and pit latrines.

In the absence of Host Nation standards, design the water system per the IBC.

After installation, test water supply lines according to local codes for leakage.

Before the water supply line is put into final operation, disinfect the line, and then flush the line to remove traces of the sterilization agent. Test treated line for coliform bacteria. Provide test results to the KO. Locate and repair any sections failing to pass the required tests. Repeat the specified tests and inspections on the repaired sections.

See SOW Section 6.0 – MECHANICAL for indoor water scope.

2.11 PAVEMENT

For newly constructed buildings, provide minimum 1-meter-wide concrete building apron around the entire building. Install concrete over minimum 15 centimeters aggregate. Install the top of the apron a minimum of 10 centimeters above the adjacent ground. Provide a minimum of 5 centimeters of bury on the concrete.

Provide expansion joint between building and apron. Provide expansion joints within the building apron spaced at 1 meter maximum to prevent cracking.

Provide a gravel driveway for the new vehicle gate as well as a parking pad.

In the absence of Host Nation standards, design pavements per UFC 3-201-01, Civil Engineering.

2.12 FENCE

Provide a minimum 1.8-meter high, galvanized security fence around the perimeter of the property to replace the existing fence as shown on the attached Conceptual Site Plan. Replace any existing gates with similar types. Provide a lock for each gate with 2 keys for each lock. Provide electrical grounding as required by local codes. Provide fencing and gates per USACE Protective Design Center Standard Fence Drawings (FE5 Chain-Link Security Fence Details and FE5 Chain-Link Security Fence Gate Details). Host Nation equivalent fencing, such as chain-link wire fence with razor wire on top or an invisible fencing variation, and gates may be acceptable per KO approval.

2.14 LANDSCAPING

Provide 15 centimeters of compacted gravel with a maximum particle size of 3 centimeters in areas that do not have pavement or a building within the limits of disturbance. Refer to 2.9 EARTHWORK section for minimum compaction requirements.
