AMENDMENT 0005 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Question #1: Amendment No. 0003, Question No. 4 asked if there was any consideration to providing larger bases where the existing columns are not centered due to the excentric loading. We would suggest all contractors include a specified quantity of enlarged bases and a unit cost for additions or deletions with the bid per the Government’s directions; or wait until the work is on-going and deal with this issue as a changed condition.

Answer: #1: Bidders shall bid the job as they see fit, in accordance with the drawings, specifications, solicitation, and all amendments.

Question #2: Amendment No. 0003, Question No. 9 shows the top corner post in the Type 1 Units to be mounted to the soffit as shown on Drawing A-201, Detail B-2. The answer to this question states that the post shall extend to the soffit. In actuality, the corner post which run continuous are a foot farther out than the soffit. This is evident when a site inspection is conducted. The existing post stop at the bottom of the rail at the 3RD floor. Please advise how to proceed?

Answer: #2: Replace/repair soffits in-kind. Where these components do not currently exist, it is not required to add new components. This answer replaces Answer #9 in Amendment 0003.

Question #3: The demising wall in the Type 1 center units are shown on Drawing A-402 Detail B-2 and A-3 and are required to support the deck. Question No. 10, Amendment No. 0003 states that the walls shall be removed and not be replaced. On drawing A-601 “Deck Repair Schedule” state “Provide new siding to match existing at party (demising) wall”.

This would indicate that the existing demising (party) wall would remain. Therefore, we assume that a new wall is required.

Please clarify.

Answer: #3: Replace/repair demising walls in-kind. Where these components do not currently exist, it is not required to add new components. This answer replaces Answer #10 in Amendment 0003.

Question #4: An item of concern is the flashing of the roof at the sliding doors. We were not able to physically get on a deck to measure the height of the existing sill, we assume this would be approximately 6-inches. The preferred detail would be to take the flashing and install it under the sliding doors, but given the field conditions, I do not think this would be doable. We would attempt to get this partially under the lip of the existing threshold and then insert an 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" counter flashing

(032) with drip edge under the sill with caulking to give us a fighting chance. Is this an acceptable detail? Please advise.

Answer: #4: Section L.9 of the IFB provided bidders with instruction to contact the site representative in order to schedule a site visit. Three organized site visits were held providing ample opportunity for bidders to get all the measurements they needed. No additional site visits will be offered at this point. Bidders shall bid the job as they see fit, in accordance with the drawings, specifications, solicitation, and all amendments.
