| Description |
Defense Media Activity (DMA) provides a broad range of high quality multimedia products and services to inform, educate, and entertain Department of Defense audiences around the world. DMA provides U.S. radio and television news, information, and entertainment programming to Active, Guard, and Reserve Military Service members, DoD civilians and contract employees, and their families overseas, on board Navy and Coast Guard ships, and other authorized users.
Defense Information School (DINFOS) conducts joint education and training for military and civilian personnel in the public affairs, broadcasting, and visual information career fields to meet DoD-wide entry level skills and long-term career development requirements.
The DMA Broadcast Center (DMA-BC) is responsible for reflecting an accurate cross-section of what is widely available to stateside audiences of the American radio and television industry. Programs are uplinked from the DMA-BC to a series of satellites and delivered worldwide via a secure transmission path. This global radio and television network service is called AFN, the American Forces Network.
