Performance Work Statement CONTROL-M Maintenance & Support
Mar 15, 2018
Requiring Activity: Defense Security Assistance Development Center (DSADC)
1. Introduction: This is an annual renewal of the maintenance for Control-M Distributed
Systems and Control-M/Enterprise Manager maintenance. As the Control-M series of products are currently required and critical standards for DSAMS and its operations, it is imperative that this maintenance be continued.
The Control-M software package performs job scheduling and workload automation. It is essential for day-to-day functions of both the SCIP and the DSAMS Application environments. Our current setup includes: 1 Control-M Database Server, 1 Control-M
Application Server, and 9 Endpoint servers. Control-M allows DSCA Mechanicsburg to create and schedule jobs to perform a myriad of crucial tasks that would be manually difficult to maintain without it’s use.
In the DSAMS Development environment, there is currently one server that acts as an endpoint for Control-M to schedule jobs to run. Each night, Control-M runs the nightly application builds for DSAMS and sends alerts to the responsible parties in the event of a failure.
Throughout the day, Control-M is running jobs that sync database changes and control the flow of information within the DSAMS application.
In the SCIP environment, there are currently eight servers that act as endpoints for
Control-M to schedule job-runs. These servers span the SCIP Development, SCIP Test/QA, and
SCIP COOP applications. Every night, Control-M is responsible for running the “Data Refresh” to provide users the most up-to-date information available. Throughout the day, Control-M is also running crucial jobs including, sending user account status notification emails, populating data via Web-service, Flat-file, or Oracle proprietary files for Navy, EUM, CIN Applications, etc., and updating specific Web-pages with the latest status.
The licensing model that DSCA Mechanicsburg is using must migrate to the new platform. This new licensing model requires DSCA Mechanicsburg to have a license for each endpoint. There is also a required fee to complete the migration. DSCA Mechanicsburg is currently using Control-M with 9 endpoints and an additional 1 endpoint is needed for future growth.
The Control-M application is essential to the overall success of DSCA Mechanicsburg operations, due to the easily managed automation it provides. Tasks would otherwise require a great deal of oversight and cost many man hours, on a regular basis to manually run what had been previously automated. The reliability and customization provided by the Control-M software allows DSCA Mechanicsburg employees to focus on future areas of responsibility and growth.
2. Background: Control-M software was integrated into DSAMS use as it was the only integrated solution that provided simplified job scheduling over a multitude of platforms and applications. It also integrates scheduling applications and links the production environments to vital system activities. These products are mission-critical – we use the software for all of our batch execution to include Forte builds, some server maintenance, etc.
