Defense Security Assistance Development Center

Performance Work Statement

CommVault Simpana Software Licenses and Support

19 August 2016

Title: CommVault Simpana

Requiring Activity: Defense Security Assistance Development Center (DSADC)

1. Introduction:

This request states the requirements for the procurement of the CommVault Simpana product suite licenses and 1 year product support.

2. Background:

CommVault Simpana® software delivers the unparalleled advantages and benefits of a truly holistic approach to data management. It is one product that contains individually licensable modules—all built on a single unifying code base and platform—to Analyze, Replicate, Protect, Archive and Search your data.

Leveraging the strengths of this common technology platform, each module, deployed by itself or in combination with others, delivers unsurpassed feature-for-feature performance against alternative point-level solutions. And because modules are individually licensable, users have the flexibility to choose those that meet their current needs and activate additional modules as new needs emerge. This suite of modules based on the CommVault Common Technology™ Engine

(CTE), is the only enterprise solution that integrates global source side deduplication with FIPS

140-2* certified encryption across data protection, replication, snapshots, compliance and eDiscovery, service level management and storage resource management (SRM).

From a single console, administrators can deploy and oversee automated policy management and common job and event managers on the front-end and distributed metadata indexes, media management, and copy management on the back-end. The Simpana suite enables customers to dramatically reduce back-up and restore times by allowing granular recoveries in applications and file systems across UNIX, Linux, Microsoft®, and Novell® platforms.

Simpana certified support of industry leading virtual server environments reduces data management costs across the customer enterprise environment. Provide your administrators with the ability to protect thousands of virtual machines in a matter of minutes with a few mouse clicks.

Products like Backup Exec have VDAP integration but lack the ability to capture snapshots of virtual environments on hardware arrays. Netbackup has the ability to provide snapshots of

VMware environments on NetApp arrays only and the DSADC environment does not use those types of storage arrays. EMC Data Domain cannot leverage hardware snapshots.
