Section SF 1449 - CONTINUATION SHEET
STATEMENT OF WORK
STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Background:
Detachment Kodiak has inadequate storage for the command’s four (4) hard boats. Year round severe Alaskan weather continues to degrade the electronics and power plants on our critical safety craft. The degradation costs the command thousands of dollars and numerous man hours annually. Antennas, oil lines, fuel filters, and outboard engines are all needlessly exposed to the elements. These unnecessary repairs could be limited with adequate custom boat covers.
2. Scope:
Winter/Weather covers for two (2) ACBS boats and two (2) Silverships boats. Covers shall be made from Surlast – all weather marine fabric (approximately 170 yards) Keder track + welt + # 10 separating zippers, 1 inch strapping and misc, stainless hardware, i.e. Deck loops, snap hooks, D rings, snaps and Lift a Dot fasteners. Custom fabrication shall be utilized for all four (4) covers; approximately 170 man hours. All covers shall be attached to the cabin bow and stern with waterproof Keder track system screwed into overhead and cabin sides and removable at these points by # 10 separating zippers.
Stress points shall have extra stainless fasteners. Stainless deck loops and snap hooks attach webbings straps fore and aft, port and starboard for additional canvas support. Custom sewn sandbags shall fit into packets on hem edge eliminating need for hardware on hull. Covers shall extend to outboard rails and secure there. All covers shall be quick and easy to remove and store in custom stowage bags.
3. Additional Justifications:
Custom boat covers are an economical means to limit the amount of needless repairs from weather. These covers need to be custom made, fitted, and installed for each of the four (4) command hard boats. The covers shall be utilized to store the boats in the compound and during evolutions while the boats are used as stationary safety platforms. No future facilities projects are intended to resolve this issue.
Surlast fabric is manufactured by GlenRaven, makers of Sunbrella and SeaMark and expressly used for boat covers. Surlast has high UV and mildew resistance, is highly water resistand, and breathable. Excellent tear and abrasion resistance.
