This Amendment is being issued to answer the following question:

1) The manufacturer has told us that after we remove the existing evap units, they we need to take measurements of the space, then manufacture the units for proper fit. This means that after removal of the existing units, there will be a 4 week period where there is not evap unit in the air handler, meaning the air handler would be out of operation for 4 weeks. We figure there are three options as a result of this:

Option 1- Remove the evap unit, protect the voided space from weather, and leave the AHU out of operation for 4 weeks. Please keep in mind, this means 6 units would be down for 4 weeks in the base bid.

This would be the cheapest option, but we are not sure if it is feasible to bring these units down as this is an occupied building that might need them.

Option 2- Remove the evap unit, take the measurements, re-install the existing unit. After the new units are manufactured, we then remove the old unit a second time, and install the new one. This would obviously be a substantial cost, as it would require another removal and installation cost (crane included).

Option 3- Remove the evap unit, and provide temporary heating (assuming you do not need cooling for when this project would happen, fall/winter). This would also be a substantial cost to provide temp heating for each unit, for the 4 weeks that it is down.

GOVERNMENT RESPONSE: An overall measurement can be made by the manufacturer to allow them to start fabricating the replacement section. Once they are close to completing the section, the demo can begin. When the section is removed, the manufacturer can take the final measurement for the drain and supply so that a knockout can be made to save time in the field. When dismantling the existing section the bottom or base of that section can be left in place to provide additional protection from the weather. This section would be removed before the new section is placed.

The work will need to be scheduled in conjunction to the laboratory production schedule. This is usually a slow time of year. A two week downtime is probably the most we will be able to get. Once demo has taken place on the first one or two units, production should increase to the point where demo can take place on one unit while dropping in another unit. Depending on the weather and the availability of the new units, there should only be a need for a temporary shut-down of the unit while you are working on it. The unit should be able to be turned back on once you have completed as much work as you could for that day.

Weather proofing- If you choose to remove the entire unit exposing the interior plenum or if you choose to leave the unit base in place, the opening will need to be covered. In the past, the Government has found that plywood and a tarp work well. The air intake will need to be covered as well. The Government suggests using blanket filter media that can be clipped onto the remaining unit. In-case of inclement weather, the opened/covered units should be inspected to divert any accumulation from the unit. The Government suggests daily inspections of the areas below for possible damage.
