Questions and Answers for FA9101-20-Q-0003: 6” Ball Valves

Q1. SOW No 11207-19-0XX for the Electric Motor Operated valves: Section 3:10 list a Limitorque SMC actuator.. without motor starter. Is that a special model for AEDC? I don’t see a standard offering from Limitorque for a SMC model. Typically, AEDC has gone with the L120 when they didn’t want the motor starter installed inside the actuator.

A1. Per the spec, a motor starter is not required. The L120 is the typical unit used at AEDC.

Q2. Specifically on the Electric Motor Operated SOW No 11307-19-0XX 5 June 2019, Valve No: 1107

Per Sections 3.9 to 3.12:

Do the actuators need local controls / a local pushbutton station (local-off-remote aka sw 3/2/3), or will the units have no pushbutton stations? They are not mentioned in the SOW.

A2. Local control is not required per the spec.

Q3. Specifically on the Electric Motor Operated SOW No 11307-19-0XX 5 June 2019, Valve No: 1107

What is the control voltage signal (I am assuming 120vac/1/60hz)?

A3. Correct - 120vac/1/60hz

Q4. What are the NEMA requirements?

A4. NEMA 12

Q5. What is the Voltage?

A5. 3-phase, 480V, 60 Hz

Q6. What is the Duty Cycle / Time to Close?

A6. Duty Cycle is two cycles per day

Time to open or close in section 3.11 is defined as two minutes

Q7. On your RFQ FA9101-20-Q-0003, Section 3.11 states that the actuator shall be capable of moving the valve from fully open to fully closed in 2 minutes (each direction). Is the objective of this requirement to have the valve open 2 minutes or longer in each direction or is the objective to have the valve operate in 2 minutes or less? Please clarify if the 2 minutes is a minimum or maximum time limit.

A7. 2 minutes is the MAX. Less time to open or close is better.

sQ8. And the newest Q&A document (released today) mentions BOTH 120VAC AND 480VAC so which is it???

A8. 120V is the signal voltage (or the voltage signal through the limit switches) whereas 480V is the power voltage to the electric motor on the actuator.
