About this file
This document contains questions and answers regarding Nonlinear Frequency Conversion Devices being procured by the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Research Laboratory under solicitation number FA875123Q0144. The questions and answers provide specifications for the devices, including that they will operate in free space with single photon pump power of 500 mW, require 99% depletion efficiency, and utilize crystals 4cm in length that can phase match at the same operating temperature. While each stage can use a separate crystal, there should be a minimum of 20 waveguides per crystal pair. Crystal dimensions are flexible but must be rigid enough for handling and fit standard ovens.

Questions & Answers Document
Q: Available input powers for the devices A: Pump power 500 mW, Input is single photons (device is used for converting from one wavelength regime to another at the single photon regime) Q: Required conversion efficiency/output power A: Depletion efficiency of 99% ((input signal converted to target wavelength)/total input signal) Q: Free space or fiber coupling A: Free space Q: Does “4 cm” refer to the crystal or the complete module (mounting, housing, possibly coupling)?
A: Crystal Length Q: As you will need a different crystal for each conversion in each device, should the two crystal lengths combined be equal to ~4cm or will you reflect the output from the initial crystal so that both crystals can be up to 4cm long?
A: Each crystal should be 4cm in length.
Q: Should both crystals in each device phase match at a similar temperature? If so, do you have a preferred operating temperature?
A; If both stages are on the same crystal, then yes it should have both regions phasematched to the same temperature. If each stage is a separate crystal, then they can have different phasematching temperatures.
Q: Do you require 20 crystals/crystal pairs quoted in the initial quotation?
A: No, there should be a minimum of 20 waveguide per crystal in each pair.
Q: Do you have any width restrictions for the crystals?
A: No, but the crystal must be rigid enough to be easily handled, and if the vendor does not sell a custom oven mount for it, it should fit in a standard oven.
