Kirtland AFB, NM Questions/Answers Set 2 24 Apr 19

Question 1: The drawing AKR707-03 shows the upper pallet gate to swing out while the other drawing shows it to be in-swing. May we design both to swing-in for safety purposes?

Response to Question 1: Upper level doors/pallet gates are preferred to swing inwards for safety reasons, first floor doors shall swing as indicated on drawing AKR707-03

Question 2: May we have a footrint of the overhaul equipment for loading purposes?

Response to Question 2: Approximate existing equipment sizes are as follows:

Modular cabinets (28”D x 52”W) Workstation (28”D x 60”W) Pallet Rack (4’D x 6’W)- racks can be disassembled for easier transport.

Question 3: On Bldg 979 drawing there is a note that says “dividers to be installed on these Type “E” cabinets, however type E is wide span shelving, and the appendix does not reference anything in regards to cabinets. Please clarify if this is a typo on the drawing, or if something is missing in the appendix.

Response to Question 3: This text was in reference to the base for their usage of the racks once installed and does not impact this contract (a holdover from the approval drawings with the base).

Question 4: Please ask the engineer to provide an approx. distance for the electrical and sprinkler system tie in points for both hangers to the mezzanines. I know they are marked on the drawing, but it doesn’t show distance.

Response to Question 4: Hanger 1000: Electrical ~200 ft., Sprinkler ~100ft.

Hanger 1002: Electrical ~100 ft., Sprinkler ~50 ft.

Question 5: Please ask the engineer to mark the communications room on drawings 02 and 03 for the hangers, and provide an approx. distance to each machine (Robocribs and Autocribs).

Response to Question 5: AF Drawings AKR707-02 and -03 have been updated to include the locations of each communications room. Approximate distances to each machine are as follows:

Hanger 1000: 150 feet, 200 feet Hanger 1002: 225 feet, 200 feet, 175 feet, 175 feet

Set 1 Questions

1. Cover PD - Are we able to deliver all items to 1 location, or will equipment have to be delivered to each building separately? How far apart are the buildings/hangers?

Answer - All three buildings are located on the flight line behind fencing with movement between buildings being difficult in regards to equipment/materials. As such, it is recommended that each buildings equipment be delivered directly to where it will be installed. Below is an aerial view showing the proximity of the three buildings. Hangers 1000 and 1002 are approximately .25 miles apart and Hanger 1000 and Bldg. 979 are approximately .5 miles apart taking roadways. The Cover PD has been updated to include language for the buildings being in secured locations.

Bldg. 979 Hanger 1002 Hanger 1000

2. 3.1.6 Workstations - For bldg. 979 the appendix states it should have a footrest, however the drawing does not show a footrest, and it shows 2 legs which are not in the appendix. Please clarify whether it should have a footrest as stated. Also, the appendix states all workstations should have 5 drawers, however the drawing for bldg. 979 shows 8 drawers. Please clarify which is correct.

Answer - AF Drawing AKR707-01 has been updated to reflect the 5 drawer configuration. No footrest is required as part of the hinged countertop section; instead two sets of legs shall be used. The Cover PD has been updated to clarify this section.

3. 3.1.8 Cabinets - Appendix states that locks should be provided but does not specify what type of lock, or how many keys for each should be provided. Please clarify.

Answer - Either padlocks or a built in cabinet lock shall be provided. A minimum of two keys per lock shall be provided. The Cover PD has been updated to clarify this requirement.

4. 3.1.9 Security Fencing For Hanger 1002 there is a 6’ sliding door that does not align with anything. Is this an error, or is it just in the wrong spot? See below picture.

Answer - This sliding door was an error. AF Drawing AKR707-03 has been updated to delete this door.

5. 3.1.10 Removal and Disposal of Existing Equipment -The paragraph states that we are to transport and dispose of the material at an on base recycling facility, or dispose of it off base if one is not available. Please clarify if an on base recycling facility is available, and if so, whether they will supply a dumpster for us to dispose of the material, or if we are required to bring it there ourselves. This makes a different in installation time and transportation costs.

If we are to dispose of it off base we need to know the dimensions of the cabinets, workstations and pallet rack. This is due to the fact that scrap metal no longer has enough value to cover the cost of the dumpster and transportation to the recycling center.

Answer - An on base recycling facility is available; however, a dumpster will not be provided to dispose of the material.

6. The picture of the pallet rack depicts 3 bays of tire rack only, is this the wrong picture or are the remaining 5 bays out of frame? It also shows metal bins-are these to be disposed of as well?

Answer - 5 bays of racking are depicted in the picture (3 on the left and 2 on the right). The remaining bays are out of frame. The metal bins shown in the picture will not be disposed of by the contractor.

7. 3.3.18 Seismic - This paragraph states seismic to comply with TI 809-04. Appendix A 3.2.1.5 states seismic zone 2, and Appendix C 3.1 states seismic zone 1. Which is correct?

Answer - Seismic zone 2 is correct. Appendix C has been updated to correct this.

8. Appendix B – Robocribs -The appendix only asks for us to provide the equipment. Based on the original Kirtland bid last year, we are assuming that all electrical and communication networking needs to be included as well. Please clarify whether we are just supplying equipment only, or supplying all electrical and communication networking.

Answer -All electrical and communication networking required to operate the Robocribs shall be provided as part of the system. Appendix B has been updated to better clarify.

9. Appendix C – Widespan - Type B & E widespan have back to back rows of rack but the appendix does not specify row spacers. Row spacers are recommended for back to back rack. Please specify if this was an oversite and whether they are required.

For type D widespan on the mobile aisle inverted beams are recommended for the bottom level. This eliminates the gap between the carriage floor and bottom level where debris can land. Please specify whether this is something of interest. It does not add any additional cost.

Answer - Row spacers have been added to Appendix C for all back to back row sections. Inverted beams the bottom level of Type D widespan shall be acceptable.
