3.2.2.1 Reverse-Osmosis Water Purification Unit (ROWPU). PD07WRGBGBLC48-9 ROWPU shall be capable of producing potable water from natural water sources (i.e. pond, lake, stream, sea, or ocean). The ROWPUs shall be capable of operating in conjunction as well as independently. The ROWPUs shall also be capable of being isolated from one another in order to conduct repair, maintenance, and replacement of one ROWPU while maintaining water purification with the remaining operational ROWPU. The ROWPU shall operate at design capacity without leaks, malfunctions, or permanent deformation, and shall meet the overall design, material, temperature, transportability, reliability, maintainability, and safety requirements of the water system specified herein.
Each ROWPU shall have a capacity of no less than 1500 gallons per hour (GPH) when using a source that contains 27,000 ppm total dissolved solids (TDS) with a turbidity of 12.5 NTU, normalized at 77°F. The water produced shall be in full accordance with Tri-Service Field Water Quality Standards for long term consumption. The ROWPU shall be capable of obtaining not less than 99% decontamination of water in Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) environments through routine operation (without the aid of additional components or external processes). The ROWPU shall be capable of achieving 99.9% decontamination of NBC contaminants in the water for not less than 100 operating hours. This additional purification capability may be achieved through the use of a post-treatment section and shall be considered part of the basic ROWPU unit. (CAGE Code OAK83, Part No. 701-1500 - 1500 ROWPU or equivalent)
The maximum operating pressure shall not exceed 1,000 psi. The ROWPU shall fit directly on a single 463L Pallet and shall be fully air transportable. The combined weight of the pallet and the unit shall not exceed 10,000 lbs. The use of commercial/military specification components and fittings in lieu of specialty components shall be maximized. The unit shall utilize standard off-the-shelf membranes and filters and shall have a minimum replacement/service time of 1500 hours. Design shall not require removal of other major components to access and service/replace subassemblies and filters. Unless otherwise specified, a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection.
NOTE: The 1500 ROWPU shall interface with the existing BEAR Water System and shall be form, fit, and functionally interchangeable with the existing 1500 ROWPU. (CAGE Code OAK83, P/N 701-1500, or equivalent)
3.2.2.2 Electric pump. Self-priming centrifugal pump, minimum flow of 35 gpm at 40 psi. Electric motor shall be a 2 HP, single-phase, 60 Hz, wired for 208volts. Any fans or other moving parts capable of causing injury shall be totally enclosed or protected by a guard and clearly labeled with warning. Electrical inlet fitting shall be a military or commercial version of MS90558C32412P. Pump assembly shall be fitted with an accumulator tank and a pressure switch set at on-20 psi and off-40 psi. Pressure switch shall contain a manual on-off switch. Pump inlet fitting shall be 2" female adapter quick disconnect and outlet fitting shall be 2” male adapter quick disconnect per A-A-59326/1A. The hose sections at the inlet and outlet of the pump shall be configured to prevent the hoses from becoming kinked. A check valve and pressure gage shall be mounted on the discharge of the pump. The outer perimeter of the assembly shall be contained in an aluminum cage.
3.2.3 550 Initial. PD07WRGBGBLC48-3 (See Fig. 5 for typical layout.) The 550-initial water distribution package is the backbone of the BEAR water system. The system shall be designed for added expansion, reliability, built-in redundancy, ease-of-installation/maintenance, and build-up. This system requires three 20K water bladders for front-end storage capacity, and five 3K (pillow-type) bladders for facility storage capacity and redundancy. The bladders shall be in accordance with MIL-T-53029 or equivalent. The 20K bladders are the starting point of the system and shall be configured in such a way, to accommodate tank farm expansion. These bladders shall be connected to a 4” header line feeding into a variable speed dual pumping station designed to feed the water-using facilities throughout the distribution line. The two pumps shall be capable of interacting with each other, alternating, and controlling the water flow within the distribution line that can be looped and connected together to form a pressurized feed line. The distribution line size shall be 3” collapsible hose. The pumps shall be powerful enough to handle pumping and feeding water to 12 continuously running 2” feeder branches off of the 3” distribution line (estimated feeding capacity is 300 GPM over 3,000 feet in two directions from pumping station or 6,000 feet of total “looped” distribution). The normal continuous pressure supplied throughout the distribution line shall be no less than 45 ± 5 PSI. Maximum continuous water pressure within the distribution line shall not exceed 80 PSI. Ball valves shall be placed on the distribution line at each feed branch to allow isolation capabilities. The water feed line coming directly off of the pump station shall go into a tee that contains a valve on each side to allow for shutting down the continuous loop. One ball valve shall be required at each feed branch on the distribution line, and all valves on the distribution line shall be spaced on the same side of each branch feeder tee in order to isolate each branch from the distribution line. All facility feed lines shall be 2” hose and shall contain a ball valve coming directly from the distribution line to allow for isolation. The possibility also exists that 3” feed lines will be placed on the system for operations like tanker truck filling stations and remote area feed line runs. The feeder branch tees shall be the same uniform, standard size and not specially made for the system. (Example: If 3” hose is selected as the distribution loop, 3x3x3” tees could be selected at each branch and reduced/bushed down to the 2” feeder line connections. This allows the maintainer and operator to be more flexible when setting up their system.) Each 2” feeder hose shall feed a 3K pillow bladder. Ball valves shall be connected on the 2” threaded inlet and outlet ports on each side of the bladder. The outlet side ball valve shall be 2” and the inlet shall be no smaller than 2”. The water entering the bladder from the distribution loop will be under pressure and shall be regulated. The pillow bladders are not designed to handle pressure and therefore, a bladder fill-level control device will be necessary to control the amount of water in the bladder. This subsystem shall also contain a wastewater collection system that will be capable of carrying wastewater away from the water-using facilities to a centralized collection/treatment area. The water system shall contain all the necessary interface components required to supply water to and remove wastewater from the following facilities: latrines, showers, laundries, and kitchens. Normal camp setup consists of latrines, showers, and laundries placed along the outside edges of the encampment. BEAR camps are placed on somewhat level ground making wastewater disposal collection lines by gravity-feed unfeasible. Forced wastewater lines are the only alternative and shall be part of this system design.
NOTE: The 550 Initial Subsystem shall interface with the existing BEAR WATER SYSTEM (Ref. Fig. 1) and the components shall be form, fit, and functionally interchangeable with the existing 550 Initial Subsystem. The existing 550 Initial Subsystem consists of the following components:
