MEMORANDUM FOR OC-ALC/PZIMA

FROM: 76 AMXG

SUBJECT: Brand Name Justification for Stationary X-ray and Interlock System

1. The 76 AMXG is in need of a Stationary X-ray and Interlock System. The Non- Destructive Inspection Branch (76th AMXG/MXDEN) inspects B-1, B-52, E-3, E6, and KC-135 using radiography. The industrial X-ray system is used to image aircraft and/or aircraft components. The following Technical Manuals require stationary radiography: 1B-1B-36, 1C-135-36, 1E-3A-36, 1B-52h-36, and A1-E6AAB-SRM-300.

The need for replacement of current X-ray and safety interlock device is due to the poor reliability of some of the components of the existing system.

2. The custom built Yxlon 160 kV X-ray System MG165-D02 manufactured by Yxlon was specifically designed and meets the form and fit specifications of the interlock system for the needs of 76 AMXG’s existing system and other equipment. Again, the interlock system provided by Yxlon is the only system that is compatible with our existing equipment. Yxlon owns proprietary data rights for the X-ray system however, distributors have been found. If we were to purchase all new equipment it would cost in excess of $250,000. We would have to replace the entire Safety Interlock system instead of just replacing the X-Ray portion.

3. Therefore to continue successful execution of stationary radiography for 1B-1B-36, 1C-135-36, 1E-3A-36, 1B-52h-36, and A1-E6AAB-SRM-300 and met form and fit specifications of the existing system it is recommended that the Yxlon 160 kV X-ray System MG165-D02 manufactured by Yxlon be procured.
