Question: "The specifications of the room alarm seem to be very undefined. Does this device have to comply with the US Air Force requirement for monitored beacon lamps? Does it have to be programmable? Does it have to have removable plugs at the enclosure?”
Answer:
They have to be of high intensity , flash or rotate to be IAW our AFIs and safety procedures.
The warning beacon lamp (amber or yellow) beacon lamps must at least be 20 seconds after all the doors are closed. The red beacon lamp must be on during the X-ray transmission signifying danger/caution x-ray are on. No, it doesn’t have to be programmable but it is highly desired to have it programmable delay to meet all our possible mission needs. As for removable plugs, no, it does not have to be removable/portable. This will be a stationary system. However, we want the capability to replace burnt out bulbs when they do occur (note the safety interlock system is design such that if a light bulb burns out a safety shut down will occur and x-ray system will not operate until the beacon light is replaced.
