AC1 - 1. SCOPE OF PROJECT

Building No. 1442 is a two-storey facility located in the Area "F" of the Aviano Air Base. BLDG 1442 was built around 2008 and its original destination is Integrated Communication Complex.

The facility has a “L” shape made up of two rectangles each about 30x42m. The facility has a reinforced concrete structure with lightened cast-in-place slabs. The facility has a sloped roof covered with clay tiles.

The exterior face of perimeter walls is plastered quartz resin painted finished and aluminum windows. Interior flooring is in ceramic floor tiles and industrial concrete, partitions are painted gypsum board and plastered and painted hollow clay tile blocks, the suspended ceiling consists of mineral fiber panels and gypsum board, doors are steel and wood with plastic laminate.

It includes offices and some strategic communication rooms such as switch-, SIPRNet and NIPRNet rooms.

According to the Statement of Work for these A&E Services, HVAC components of BLDG 1442 are at the end of life cycle. Existing DX units are undersized and don't have enough cooling capacity to satisfy the needs of the telephone room.

A preliminary investigation carried out to prepare the SoW suggests replacing # 2 existing HVAC Chillers for building cooling, #2 Split units for battery room. In addition, the same investigation indicated the need of new close control HVAC system for SWITCH ROOM (room 120), SIPRNet (room 231A) and NIPRNet (room 224).

Paragraph: 3.2.5 Excavation for Roads and Parking Areas

Excavation shall consist of excavating and grading for parking areas;

excavating the top 40 centimeters of surface soil and additional unsuitable material, regardless of character, from the subgrade; and disposing of all excavated materials, as specified and in conformity with the lines, grades, cross sections, and dimensions shown on the drawings, and to replace unsatisfactory materials from other excavation or grading operations.

Paragraph: 3.3.5 Subgrade Preparation for Roadways and Parking

After the grading is substantially complete, and immediately in advance of depositing the surfacing material, the subgrade shall be brought to the proper lines, grades, and cross sections as indicated and in accordance with these specifications. All depressions and ruts shall be removed by blading and dragging so as to secure a uniform surface. The entire subgrade shall be brought to a firm, unyielding surface, true to line, grade and cross section, by rolling with an approved power roller, weighing not less than 9500 kilograms, until thoroughly compacted. This operation shall include any reshaping and wetting required to obtain proper compaction. All soft, spongy, or yielding spots shall be entirely removed and the space refilled with suitable material and thoroughly compacted. The top of the subgrade shall be of such smoothness that when tested with a 5 meters straightedge it shall not show any deviation greater than 12 millimeters.

Subgrade compaction shall be extended onto the shoulders for a distance of at least 30 centimeters beyond the edges of the base course or pavement. The subgrade shall be maintained in the finished condition until the first course of surfacing has been placed.
