REPAIR ROOF OF DET 460 (B1183) QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

EIELSON AFB, ALASKA 17 MAY 2016

FTQW 14-2605

Questions and Answers:

The following includes questions that were received in writing and the Air Force Civil Engineering’s response and clarifications to those questions.

Q1. The specifications for building 1183 call for a thermal barrier and poly vapor retarder. The thermal barrier is not needed on a concrete roof deck for a UL class A roof system. Would it be possible to delete the thermal barrier and substitute the poly vapor retarder for a self-adhering vapor retarder that would be installed over the concrete roof deck and adhere the insulation up from there using a two part cold adhesive rather than using mechanical fasteners for the insulation. This system is what is commonly used over a concrete roof deck. Would this system be acceptable?

A1. That would be acceptable. If this method is used, the contractor would have to provide sample and details upon award per the AF Form 66.

Q2. Will the Government be providing a specification for the metal roofing on the garage?

A2. Yes. See Amendment 0002.

Q3. Will the parking lot and areas in front of the overhead doors be available for tool/material storage?

A3. Areas of the parking lot will be available, however the area in front of the overhead doors will not be available. Government vehicles will be utilizing the overhead doors on a daily basis.

Q4. Is the plan to replace the penthouse door or threshold?

A4. The door and jamb shall be replaced by the contractor in accordance with the Statement of Work and applicable Specifications.

Q5. How is the original membrane adhered to the concrete deck?

A5. Unknown. Contractors should perform core testing.

Q6. What is the intent behind replacing the metal roofing? It appears to be in good condition.

A6. Metal roof is outside its warranty and shops are unable to tend to the metal roof due to work priority

Q7. What are the current activities that occur at this location that would affect the work?

A8. No current activities are expected to affect work.
