Questions for JFSD970342 Repair MSA Electrical
1. Since the conduit size in detail #3 (E-502) changed to 4" PVC, couldn’t the concrete ductbank dimension change to 18" wide instead of 22" wide? It would save the government a lot of money to not pay for the extra concrete.
A: See updated drawing E-502.
2. Also, is there any rebar in the concrete? This is what we have seen for engineered ductbanks. But there may be a reason this duct does not contain rebar.
A: There is no rebar required for concrete encased ductbank, as indicated by the drawings.
3. E401 –This drawing shows a lot of boring under the parking lot. However, Note 6 says the bored ductbank will be according to the detail (#3 in E-502). We can’t bore and place all of the concrete under the parking lot without disturbing the lot surface. Where is the note for boring similar to the other pages that show boring?
A: Boring:High Density Polyethelene (HDPE) is acceptable for directional boring applications (roads and parking lot locations) when installed in compliance with
Engineering Technical Letter (ETL) 07-1, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 3-550-01, and the National Electric Code. Sheet E-401 Note 6 reference to the detail refers to size and quantity of conduits only, this will need to be directionally bored.
4. E405 –Is note 1 in the center of the page referring to connection to the transformer to the SE of building #761?
A: Sheet E-405 Note 1 is referring to the tie in to the connection to the transformer on SE side of Bldg. 761, as shown in demolition drawing ED105.
5. One junction box in the upper left part of the drawing not called out or identified. Is this required or does it exist? Is it supposed to be detail #5 A: Sheet E-405 Jbox in upper left corner of the drawing should have same detail as the one next to it (Detail 5, E-502) as shown on the wiring diagram.
6. Where is Note 2 on the drawing page? It seems to indicate there is a new transformer somewhere. Is this new transformer required?
A: Sheet E-405 Note 2 is not used.
7. Detail 1, sheet E-502 points to two transformer symbols. Are these identical side-by-side transformers?(In reference to Sheet E-405 transformers) A: Side by side, yes, identical, no, see one-line diagram.
8. E408 -It looks like note 2 shows connection to a new transformer, so moving to Sheet 411 where it says it is an existing transformer. Please confirm that the transformer is existing and that note 2 on page E408 is in error?
A: Sheet E-408 Note 2 is referring to an existing transformer
9. Also, Is there really a new feed required to go to transformer # T749 on sheet E-411
(detail 4) or can the existing feeds remain in place as shown on ED 110?
A: Yes, new feeder is required, see updated drawing ED110. Will be fed from new distribution equipment for better coverage.
10. E409 -Where is note 5 on the drawing?
A: Sheet E-409 Note 5 is not used.
11. E412 - Note 1 is confusing. There are no existing lines/cables to extend to this transformer. Sheet ED111 shows everything in this area to be removed per note 7 on page ED111, yet note 4 on sheet ED111 says some underground are to remain. Which underground? Note 7 says they are removed.
A: See Updated Drawing ED111
12. Can you verify the finish required on the type A light poles for this project? Specification section 26 56 00 page 6 states the poles are to have a primed coat, a hot dipped galvanized coat and two coats of brown paint. The luminaires have a dark bronze finish so we are asking for a clarification on the finish for the poles. We think they want a pole with a primer coat and a dark bronze finish coat to match the luminaire but would like this clarified as the specification also lists a galvanized finish. Can you clarify the type of finish required on the type A poles for this project.
A: Finish is to be dark bronze finish coat. Specification section 26 25 00 has been updated.
13. Q: Sheet E405 note 7: What are we to supply for this note? Are we overriding a photo control in building 701 or are you trying to override the photo controls in all of the new type A fixtures? If this note pertains to the new type A fixtures, please advise how this is to be wired as each new type A fixture has an integral photo control in them.
A: See updated drawing E-503.
14. Q: Spec section 26-12-00 pad mounted transformers: Can you verify the color? The pad mounted switchgear is Munsell brown but the transformers do not have a color specified.
A: Color will be Munsell Brown.
15. Q: It has come to our attention that all of the existing underground electrical distribution that has been bored under roads and parking lots has utilized a schedule 80 PVC Bore Guard Conduit that is not installed in a steel casing nor encased in concrete. The specs call out for a Galvanized Rigid Steel Conduit under roads and parking lots, or where boring is used to install the conduit. The
Soli in Grand Forks has a High level of Alkalinity that will corrode any type of steal that is installed In the ground within a couple of years. We would like to utilize the same construction methods as used at the base in the past and described above.
A. Bore Guard Conduit or HDPE are acceptable.
Additional Changes
1. Reference Specification section 26 05 13, Medium Voltage Cables.
-Page 2, line 39 delete "ICEA S-93-639/NEMA WC 74 and ICEA S-97-682" and insert
"ICEA S-94-649"
-Page 2, line 49 delete "Shielding: Copper tape, helically applied over semiconducting insulation shield."
-Page 3, line 5 add the following paragraph and sub paragraphs.
Solid terminations
A. Shielded Cable Terminations: Comply with the following classes of IEEE 48. Insulation class is equivalent to that of the cable.
Include shield ground strap for shielded cables.
1. Class 1 Terminators: Modular type, furnished as a kit, with stress-relief tube; multiple, molded-silicone rubber, insulator modules; shield ground strap; and compression type connector.
2. Class 1 Terminators: Heat-shrink type with heat-shrink inner stress control and outer nontracking tubes; multiple, molded, nontracking skirt modules;and compression type connector.
3. Class 1 terminators: Modular type, furnished as a kit, with stress relief shield terminator; Multiple-wet-process, porcelain modules:shield ground strap; and compression type connector.
-Page 5, lines 9 and 10 delete " Ground shields of shielded cable at one point only.
Maintain shield continuity and connections to metal connections and hardware at all connection points."
2. Reference Sheet E505 and specification section 26 12 00 Medium Voltage Transformers.
- Page 1, line 13 delete "the following types of transformers with medium-voltage primaries:" and insert " Three Phase transformers with 12,470 volt primaries and Single Phase transformers with 7,200 volt primaries."
