C. EXECUTION 16
INSTALLATION 18
Install cables according to IEEE 576. 20
Proof conduits prior to conductor installation by passing a wire brush mandrel and then a rubber duct swab 22 through the conduit. Separate the wire brush and the rubber swab by 48 to 72 inches on the pull rope. 23
1. Wire Brush Mandrel: Consists of a length of brush approximately the size of the conduit inner 24 diameter with stiff steel bristles and an eye on each end for attaching the pull ropes. If an obstruction 25 is felt, pull the brush back and forth repeatedly to break up the obstruction. 26
2. Rubber Duct Swab: Consists of a series of rubber discs approximately the size of the conduit inner 27 diameter on a length of steel cable with an eye on each end for attaching the pull ropes. Pull the 28 rubber duct swab through the duct to extract loose debris from the duct. 29
Pull Conductors: Do not exceed manufacturer's recommended maximum pulling tensions and sidewall 31 pressure values. 32
1. Where necessary, use manufacturer-approved pulling compound or lubricant that does not 33 deteriorate conductor or insulation. 34
2. Use pulling means, including fish tape, cable, rope, and basket-weave cable grips, that do not 35 damage cables and raceways. Do not use rope hitches for pulling attachment to cable. 36
3. Use pull-in guides, cable feeders, and draw-in protectors as required to protect cables during 37 installation. 38
4. Do not pull cables with ends unsealed. Seal cable ends with rubber tape. 39
Install "buried-cable" warning tape 12 inches above cables. 41
In handholes, pull boxes and junction boxes, train cables around walls by the longest route from entry to exit; 43 support cables at intervals adequate to prevent sag. 44 Install sufficient cable length to remove cable ends under pulling grips. Remove length of conductor damaged 46 during pulling. 47 Install cable splices at pull points and elsewhere as indicated; use standard kits. Use dead-front separable 49 watertight connectors in manholes and other locations subject to water infiltration. 50 Install terminations at ends of conductors. 52 Install separable insulated-connector components as follows: 54
1. Protective Cap: At each terminal junction, with one on each terminal to which no feeder is indicated 55 to be connected. 56
Repair (R/M) Electrical Lines – 26 05 13-5 156-011
(114009) Revised July 2013 2012 by FEI
2. Portable Feed-Through Accessory: At each terminal junction, with one on each terminal. 1
3. Standoff Insulator: At each terminal junction, with one on each terminal. 2
Arc Proofing: Unless otherwise indicated, arc proof medium-voltage cable at locations not protected by 4 conduit, cable tray, direct burial, or termination materials. In addition to arc-proofing tape manufacturer's 5 written instructions, apply arc proofing as follows: 6
1. Clean cable sheath. 7
2. Wrap metallic cable components with 10-mil pipe-wrapping tape. 8
3. Smooth surface contours with electrical insulation putty. 9
4. Apply arc-proofing tape in one half-lapped layer with coated side toward cable. 10
5. Band arc-proofing tape with two layers of 1-inch- wide half-lapped, adhesive, glass-cloth tape at each 11 end of the arc-proof tape. 12
Install fault indicators on each phase. 14
Ground shields of shielded cable at terminations, splices, and separable insulated connectors. Ground metal 16 bodies of terminators, splices, cable and separable insulated-connector fittings, and hardware. 17 Identify cables according to Section 26 05 53 "Identification for Electrical Systems." Identify phase and circuit 19 number of each conductor at each splice, termination, pull point, and junction box. Arrange identification so 20 that it is unnecessary to move the cable or conductor to read the identification. 21
FIELD QUALITY CONTROL 23
Testing Agency: Engage a qualified testing agency to perform tests and inspections. 25 Manufacturer's Field Service: Engage a factory-authorized service representative to test and inspect 27 components, assemblies, and equipment installations, including connections. 28
Perform the following tests and inspections: 30
1. Perform each visual and mechanical inspection and electrical test stated in NETA ATS. Certify 31 compliance with test parameters. 32
2. After installing medium-voltage cables and before electrical circuitry has been energized, test for 33 compliance with requirements. 34
3. Perform direct-current High Potential test of each new conductor according to NETA ATS, Ch. 7.3.3. 35
Do not exceed cable manufacturer's recommended maximum test voltage. 36 Medium-voltage cables will be considered defective if they do not pass tests and inspections. 38 Prepare test and inspection reports. 40
