FA462519Q0067, RF Antenna Upgrade questions and answers posed -
1. Who is responsible for the termination of the coax at the radio at each location?
a. The contractor is responsible for termination and connecting coax to the radios at each location. Ref: SOO_Whiteman_AFB_MO_GATR_Upgrade, Para 2.1.1.5.2 Install Antenna Pigtails Cables & 2.1.1.5.3 Install ½” Heliax to Radios
2. Access to standard installation practices? (mentioned on page 16)
a. Per the SOO on page 17, “Copies of the above documents may be obtained from the Naval Publications and Forms Center (NPFC 105), 5801 Tabor Ave, Philadelphia PA 19120.”
3. The document calls for LDF4 to be installed through existing penetrations at building 94 (GATR), however, 7 new LDF4 coax may not fit. Is it an option to use smaller, more flexible cable with similar specs?
a. Request fitment of LDF4 be determined. If it will not fit, a smaller cable with equivalent attenuation/cable loss per/ft between 120 – 400 mHz may be utilized.
4. The existing lightning rod at building 30 (RAPCON) is not tall enough to achieve a 45° angle from the existing antenna. During the upgrade of the lightning protection system at this location, would it be preferred to raise the existing lightning rod or install a new lightning rod to provide adequate protection?
a. Either method is acceptable. As long as in standards per CE.
5. Confirmation that building 30 (RAPCON) does not get a new antenna?
a. Building 30 will not get a new antenna.
6. The document states that 14 runs of 1/2" LCF12-50J coax were already installed. During the site walk, only 13 runs were present. The runs were not long enough to reach the handrail where the new junction boxes and surge protection devices are to be installed. We were informed that there is slack in the cables at the bottom of the runs but we did not receive confirmation that the cables would be long enough to reach the radio locations after enough slack
a. Request contractor installs the junction box on rails as specified in SOO_Whiteman_AFB_MO_GATR_Upgrade, Para 2.1.2.4.1. Local work center will provide pigtails and connectors to terminate LCF12-50J at the building conduit and run the pigtails into junction box with surge protection devices.
Also:
1. Building 94, GATR Site Question: The existing duct into the building is not large enough for seven (7) runs of ½” heliax, what is the solution?
Duct work solutions
a. try small pieces of ½” heliax to see if it is possible to fit 7 more through
b. The contractor adds to the duct work to run the cables through
c. Submit a CE work order to coordinate with contractors to create a path for the new cables
2. Building 50, ATC Tower Roof Question: The existing heliax run to the roof is not long enough to reach a new stainless steel box, will the site pull the cables to the correct length?
Suggest using a pig tail to connect to the boxes. Due to the length needed to place the boxes securely to the tower roof.
3. Question: Only thirteen (13) runs of heliax are pulled to the roof, will the last run be installed?
There is 13 runs of cable. The surveyor miscounted. Not 14.
