AMENDMENT 2
The following questions were received from a contractor on 16 Sep 15:
Question: Do you require rigging and utility hookup to a breaker?
Answer: Yes
Question: The characteristics are for boxed ways. Is this a preference or requirement? Many of the leading lathe manufacturers use box ways, which are producing the same rigidity and accuracy.
Answer: The Fairchild subject matter expert consider Box ways and boxed ways as interchangeable terms.
Either is acceptable.
Question: If the design of the machine provides adequate cooling, is coolant through casted parts required?
Answer: Yes, cooling through casted parts produces a more accurate product as all of the parts are cooled evenly. This reduces thermal expansion and deformation (warping) from the heat built up from the machining process. Coolant applied to just the outside of the part does not cool the inside to prevent deformation and thermal expansion due to the temperature difference from the outside of the part to the inside.
Question: We can offer a machine with 23” Max cutting length and 30” Z. Does you work require 26” and 30”?
Answer: We require at least 26” max cutting length and at least 30” Z-axis travel to accommodate part size
Question: Is 28” over the cross slide required, or would 20.75” (with Y axis) be acceptable?
Answer: At least 28” swing over the cross slide is required not including the Y-axis
Question: Is 10k rpm on the live spindle a requirement?
Answer: 10K rpm on the live spindle is required as a lower spindle rpm slows production time.
