The ABB ICX interchangeable cutout is used on overhead distribution systems to provide overcurrent protection and visible indication of fuse operation. The ICX provides a visible break sectionalizing point for maintenance personnel and is equipped with hooks to use with a portable loadbreak tool. This allows the ICX to be used as a loadbreak switch to open the circuit with load current flowing.
Silicone or Polymer Concrete insulators, Emission Control Devices (ECDs), Seacoast design, cutout/arrester combinations, and Autolink options are available on certain models.
The ICX cutout is offered in three frame sizes and five BIL ratings.
Each of the frames accommodates fuseholders with various ratings.
ICX ratings are 110 kV through 200 kV BIL.
The ICX 100 A fuse is provided with a moisture proof tube as a stan-dard offering. Cutouts perform by expelling gases during interruption from the bottom of the fuse tube. For the highest interrupting rating, a link extender rod is attached to the fuse tube cap, improving the effi-ciency of gas expulsion and arc interruption. Fuse tubes with more than one rating are clearly labeled to indicate each interrupting capability.
This minimizes the number of styles that must be stocked, while pro-viding the broadest range of application flexibility.
The ICX cutout is designed to be electrically and mechanically inter-changeable with the S&C type “XS”, A.B. Chance type “C”, and Cooper type “L” cutouts. Fuseholder caps are also interchangeable with the S&C design. Testing has confirmed the performance of the ICX fuse-holder and fuse support with S&C and Chance.
The ICX cutout meets or exceeds all applicable requirements of EEI, NEMA SG-2-1986, and ANSI C37.41.1994 and C37.42-1989 standards.

Silicone rubber has been used for more than 25 years as an outdoor insulation material and has become the fastest growing choice for polymeric material for medium and high voltage outdoor insulation. Silicone was selected for its superior performance, durability, and insulation properties.
It has the unique ability to maintain its hydrophobicity and offers greater stability against heat and ultraviolet radiation compared to other polymers. In addition, silicone cutouts are 30% - 50% lighter than porcelain units. Silicone insula-tors are available in all ratings up to 180 kV BIL.
ABB has been using polymer concrete for more than 10 years. It is available in the 110 and 125 kV BIL ratings.
Polymer concrete provides a safe, shatter-proof design with molded-in rods to prevent moisture penetration. Polymer concrete is cold weather friendly since it resists damage from freeze/thaw cycles. This makes it an excellent replacement for porcelain in colder climates. It is a field-proven material that provides excellent electrical properties and dielectric strengths, as well as superior mechanical durability.
The ICX is available with an Emission Control Device (ECD). The ECD prevents forest fires and provides added operator and environment protection. The unlatching oper-ation of the dropout is unique in the ECD, as it automati-cally resets to the service position upon closing the dropout carrier.
All ICX fuse tubes are available with an optional kick-out spring. The spring assists the drop-out operation by increas-ing the kick-out force on the tube.
The ICX cutouts utilize two different types of fuse tubes: a moisture-proof fuse tube or a high-strength glass fuse tube.
The moisture proof fuse tube is standard on all 100 A designs and is notated by the letter "M" in the 8th digit of the style number (refer to Ordering Instructions on pages 6-7). The moisture-proof tube reduces swelling that can create problems with interruption.
The 200 A design utilizes a high-strength glass fuse tube and is notated by the letter "A" in the 8th digit of the style number (refer to Ordering Instructions on pages 6-7). This fuse tube is composed of a horn fiber liner surrounded by a glass filament wound outer shell. The durable tube with-stands the rigors of high fault current interruptions. In addition, the tube is applied with electrostatic powder paint to provide protection against the effects of ultraviolet rays.
Single voltage rated cutouts can be applied on any single or three-phase system where the line-to-line voltage does not exceed the cutout rating. Dual voltage rated cutouts are suit-able on single-phase circuits where maximum line-to-ground voltage does not exceed the value shown to the left of the slash (for example, does not exceed 7.8kV in 7.8/15kV).
ICX cutouts may be used on three-phase circuits that are solidly grounded and the maximum line-to-line voltage does not exceed the value shown to the right of the slash (for example, does not exceed 27kV in 15/27 kV).
Each frame size has fault interrupting ratings at more than one voltage level. An extensive testing program was per-formed to develop these multi-voltage capabilities. As a result of this program, the voltage rating of some ICX cutouts may be increased by changing the fuseholder.
* Creep and weight values are for standard porcelain units.
* Used with ICX cutouts having the following characters in digit positions 7-10 of the ABB cutout style number.

The above is merely a summary of a portion of the design tests performed on PDV/PVR arresters. Contact your Ohio Brass sales representative for complete test reports on these two arresters.

ELASTIMOLD Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) surge arresters are fully-shielded, fully-submersibleandareequippedwith IEEE 386 interfaces for convenient energized connection with other 200 Amp loadbreak compo-nents. Units are compact, allowing installation in existing cabinetry. For application ease, arrestersareavailable in 3 styles: Elbow(ESA), Parking Stand (PSA) and Bushing (BSA). The PSA and BSA arresters permit direct connection eliminating the need for additional accessories.
Elastimoldarrestersprovidehighvoltagelightning and switchingsurge protectionof transformers, cable, equipment andother components typi-cally located on underground power distribution systems. Proper place-ment,voltageselectionandcoordinationwithriserpolearrestersminimizes damagingsurgevoltagesbyimprovingprotectivemargins.
Typical applications include installing an arrester at theendof a radial system or at bothendsof an openpoint on a loop system.Additional arresters can be added at strategic locations upstreamfromthe end point foroptimumprotection.Request Form2068(SurgeProtectionOptionsFor Underground Distribution) and Form 2069 (Arrester Applications – UndergroundElectrical Systems) foradditional application andmarginof protection information.
ESA Elbow Arresters are also available with a 200 Amp Deadbreak inter-face formatingwith other Deadbreakaccessories.
High Current Short Duration - All MOV Arresters withstand two discharges of 40kA crest.
Low Current Long Duration - All MOV Arresters withstand 20 surges of 75 amperes/2000 microsecond duration.
DutyCycleTest - AllMOVArresterswithstand22operationsof5kAcrestat 8x 20microsecond duration while energizedatrated voltage for the initial 20 operations andat maximum continuous operating voltage (MCOV) for the final two operations.
Following each of the preceding tests, MOV Arresters demonstrate thermal recovery at MCOV.

Tocomplete the information required toorder a K655LR-W0Xelbow for use on standard AEIC 500 kcmil stranded aluminum cable with
.220 inch thick insulation wall.
A. Determine that the insulation diameter
(from AEIC table on page 34) is 1.325 ±.030 inches.
B. For this elbow, the part number selection chart on page 11 indicates to use table W7 for elbow sizing and table X6 for connector sizing.
C. FromtableW7thesymbolfor W isL.
D. From table X6 the symbol for X is 330.

Selection of size-sensitive components requires determining the cable insulation diameter. This can be done in several ways:
A. Refer to the cablemanufacturer’s spec sheet fordimensions.
B. Measure the cable.
C. IfthecableconformstoAEICstandardswith a175,220,260or345milwall thickness, use the table on page 34.
D. If the cable is constructed to the newICEA standard, refer to the cable manu-facturer’sspecsheet fordimensions.
After the cable insulation diameter has been determined:
1. Locate the W table indicated in the part number selectionchart.
2. Complete the ordering informationby selecting and inserting the symbol
(given in the W table) into the partnumber.
