2. Inspect poured gypsum deck closely for:
a. Excessive deflection of bulb tees,
b. Staining of form board,
c. Cracking, FA4608-17-R-0023
d. Evidence of excessive moisture.
3. Ensure general rigidity and proper slope for drainage.
4. Verify that deck is securely fastened with no projecting fasteners and with no adjacent units in excess of 1/16 inch out of plane relative to adjoining deck.
B. Unacceptable panels should be brought to the attention of the General Contractor and Contracting Officer’s Representative and must be corrected prior to installation of roofing system.
C. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Clean and remove from substrate sharp projections, dust, debris, moisture, and other substances detrimental to roofing system installation in accordance with roofing system manufacturer's written instructions.
B. Prevent materials from entering and clogging roof drains and conductors and from spilling or migrating onto surfaces of other construction.
C. If applicable, prime surface of deck with asphalt primer at a rate recommended by roofing manufacturer and allow primer to dry.
D. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.3 RE-ROOF PREPARATION
A. Provide replacement patches where the existing poured gypsum roof deck is damaged to the point of instability or where roof mounted appurtenances have been abandoned or are being removed (and not replaced) under this contract. Follow the following procedure to perform poured gypsum deck replacement:
1. Remove existing gypsum fill from inside one complete forrnboard panel. Cut the wire mesh and remove both the wire mesh and the formboard. Leave at least a three-inch length of wire mesh next to the existing bulb tees (this length of wire is absolutely required to tie in the new wire mesh after reinstalling the new formboard).
2. Replace existing formboards with new 6-pound minimum density gypsum board sprayed on both sides with Clorox; or minimum 1-inch thick fiberglass formboard. Install galvanized cross tees at the end of formboards that do not fall on existing joists for support.
3. Tie new galvanized wire mesh (Keydeck 2160-2-1619 or approved equal) into the existing three-inch mesh at each bulb tee. Do not leave out the wire mesh (wire mesh provides structural reinforcement for the new panel and the adjacent panels; without the wire mesh, a worker could fall through the adjacent panel).
4. Use gypsum slurry product (United States Gypsum Pyrofill gypsum or approved equal); this product comes in an 80 pound bag and is to be mixed with 6 to 7 gallons of water. Install the formboards. Place
FA4608-17-R-0023
gypsum slurry on all flanges of existing bulb tees and cross tees. Add a 2-inch wide line of gypsum across the diagonals of each formboard. After the slurry and the diagonal pattern of gypsum have set, mix a new bag of gypsum slurry product with water as described above. Gypsum should set in approximately 30 to 60 minutes. Slowly place the wet mix of gypsum onto the new formboard and screed off to the desired thickness. Always maintain a minimum gypsum placement of 2-inches above the formboard.
5. New roofing operations may begin as soon as the gypsum has set. Attach the base sheet to the gypsum with fasteners designed for this application.
B. Remove all roofing membrane, surfacing, cover boards, insulation, fasteners, asphalt, pitch, adhesives, etc.

1. Perform partial deck replacement (to match existing) as described above and as directed by the Contracting Officer.
E. Disconnect as required (disconnect by licensed craftsmen) all units and other equipment items that are supported by curbs and raise as indicated on drawings to conform with the following:
1. Extend curbs as indicated on drawings to provide a minimum 8" base flashing height measured from the surface of the new membrane to the top of the flashing membrane.
2. Secure of flashing and install new metal counterflashing prior to re-installation of unit.
3. New perimeter wood nailer assemblies must be provided to match elevation of new roof insulation.
