Q: As discussed in the site visit on 1/29/15, there are many pads, vertical surfaces, and column bases throughout both hangars. Can you clarify which are to be prepared/ coated and how high vertically?
A: The coating will not be applied to the vertical foundation walls or columns. Floor coating shall be installed onto any interior concrete pads in the facilities.
Q: There is a significant amount of existing line paint to remove that is not shown on the plans as being reinstalled with new. Can you confirm that what is shown on the plans shall only be reinstalled, or provide further information if current plans differ from what is needed?
A: Markings shall be installed per the plans. Attachment No. 2 (09900) of the project specifications shall be referenced for the markings to be re-installed. Sheets 1-8 of 8 provide further clarification for the markings to be re-installed and include the crush zone marking requirements.
Q: Please confirm we are to terminate resinous flooring at the first rail of the hangar door system?
A: The resinous flooring shall terminate at the first rail of the hanger door system.
Q: There are several slabs that are deflected or moving at the floor joints that will require a substantial amount of repair. Some appear to have moved ¾” causing a trip hazard. Diamond grinding flush to remove high spots as well as slab jacking to fill voids and even lift slabs will eliminate ongoing deflection/ settling. This is suggested to reduce future coating failure at the joints. Will the Contractor be required to make the repairs and ensure joints are not deflecting and floor surface is on the same horizontal plane?
A: The Contractor will be required to diamond grind concrete as flush as possible to remove high spots at floor joints. Slab jacking will not required of the Contractor.
Q: In Dock 6, the joints are up to 1.25” in width. The specification calls for the resinous flooring system to be continuous over joints. Will the Government allow a detail where the joint does not receive the resinous floor coating over top of these large, flexible joints?
A: The joints shall be sealed as indicated in the project Specifications.
Q: Are crush zone markings and signage to extend to the exterior of the hangar doors or just on the new interior coating that is applied?
A: The tail markings would go outside (to the exterior of the hangar doors) as indicated in the the example shown on Page 5 of 8 of Attachement No. 2 (09900) of the project Specificiations.
Q: For the degreasing / scrubbing process. If biodegradable detergent is used, can the existing trench drains be used for disposal of gray water since it goes to the base IWTP? Or does the water have to be disposed off the base as hazardous waste?
A: Biodegradable detergent could be used if the following items are met:
- Provided that solid debris is picked-up/swept prior to scrubbing the floor and discarded according to the Specifications;
- ANY material that the Contractor would want to use on the base with this project would need to be submitted via a
Material Authorization Request form that provides the MSDS, manufacturer, size, and amount of material they would like to use. The material request would need to be approved by our Environmental Office to be used on the project.
- If approved, the Contractor would have to provide monthly usage reports fo the amout of material used on the site.
- Any chemical/material used inside the fence on Minot AFB is a required report to local emergency planning commissions, fire departments, AFCEC, the MAJCOM, the state of ND, and the US EPA under the Minot AFB EPA ID
Number.
- All hazardous wastes, C&D Debris, and recyclables must be collected, managed, and disposed of at the cost of the contractor and in accordance with the language in the Specifications and all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
