NKAK 13-1038
PRE-BID QUESTIONS
21 August 2015
1. Compliance with UFGS 075200, Modified Bituminous Membrane Roofing is required in paragraph 2.01.F of Section 011001, State of Work for Design-Build (SOW). Will this section be issued during the pre-bid period?
a. This section is available on line, but some have had problems downloading it. We have included this section now. See attachment.
2. Paragraph 2.03.A.15 of the SOW requires R-38 insulation at the roof areas to receive the modified bitumen membrane installation. The insulation requires a flexible vapor retarder that is an ice/water guard membrane underlayment. This is a confusing requirement.
Could a more specific type product be described?
a. Item 15 describes two separate items. One is the insulation. “Provide a thermal resistance “R” value of 38 or more. Flexible blanket, rigid, or semi-rigid faced with a flexible vapor retarder”. The second product is a vapor retarder. “Vapor retarder shall be an ice/water guard membrane underlayment”. Grace Ice and
Water Dam is a similar product.
3. Paragraph 2.03.B.2.f of the SOW requires a 4’ overhang on the metal roof portion. Does this apply to this project?
a. Existing overhangs will be acceptable.
4. Paragraph 2.03.B.2.j requires the slope of the new metal roof replacement to be no less than a 4/12 slope. Is the actual intent to match the existing slope?
a. Yes, use the same pitch as existing.
5. Does the installation of R38 thermal insulation under the new metal roofing apply?
a. This is a design issue and should be worked out during design. The purpose for the R-38 insulation is to insulate the building. If the building envelope can be extended up to include the insulation, if it can be protected, and if it doesn’t add a flammable substance to the attic space, then it could be considered. The D/B
Contractor will have to ensure that all codes are met regardless of the location of the insulation.
6. Is an economic analysis as described in paragraph 5.04.B of the SOW required?
a. No.
