b. Use the minimum amount of energy, water, and materials feasible to meet the design intent. Select energy and water efficient equipment and strategies.

c. Use environmentally preferable products and decrease toxicity level of materials used.

d. Use renewable energy and material resources.

f. Manage construction site and storage of materials to ensure no negative impact on the indoor environmental quality of the building.

g. Reduce construction waste through reuse, recycling, and supplier take-back.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 By-Pass Plan: The sanitary sewer system must remain operational during the repair of the pipelines. A By-Pass Pumping Plan shall be developed to convey sewage flows around the sections being repaired. The plan shall indicate the methodology and equipment proposed for implementation of the by-pass pumping, scheduling, phasing and consideration for sections of piping crossing roadways. During the project if there is a discharge of wastewater to waters of the state or that pose a threat to the environment, immediately contact the S.C. DHEC and comply with DHEC document Sanitary Sewer Overflow

Compliance and Enforcement Document of October 2000.

3.2 Excavation and Trenching: Excavation shall be performed to provide access for repair of the sewer pipes. Prior to excavation, remove existing sod and topsoil to a depth of 6 inches. Stockpile sod and topsoil separately from other excavated material. Make trench sides as nearly vertical as practicable except where sloping of sides is allowed. Sides of trenches shall not be sloped from the bottom of the trench up to the elevation of the top of the pipe. All trenches shall be kept free of water and as dry as possible during bedding, laying, and jointing and for as long a period as

FA4418-15-R-0023

Attachment 1

Section 01 11 00 Page 5 required. When work is not in progress, open ends of pipe and fittings shall be satisfactorily closed so that no trench water or other material will enter the pipe or fittings. The sewer contractor shall provide adequate support for all trench sidewalls, by the use of side-sloping or trench boxes. The bottom of trenches shall be graded accurately to provide uniform bearing and support for each section of pipe.

3.2.1 The competent person for excavation performed as a result of contract work shall be on-site when work is being performed in excavation, and shall inspect excavations prior to entry by workers. The competent person must evaluate for all hazards, including atmospheric, that may be associated with the work, and shall have the resources necessary to correct hazards promptly.

Prior to digging the appropriate digging permit must be obtained. All underground utilities in the work area must be positively identified by a utility locating service and coordinated with station utility departments.

The contractor must physically verify underground utility locations by hand digging using wood or fiberglass handled tools when any adjacent construction work is expected to come within three feet of the underground system. If construction is parallel to an existing utility the utility shall be exposed by hand digging every 100 feet if parallel within 5 feet of the excavation.

Trench and shoring systems must be identified in the accepted safety plan and activity hazard analysis. Extreme care must be used when excavating near direct burial electric underground cables.
