Questions and Answers

Date: 6 April 2016

1. Area in question (no room space numbers) shows devices as flush mount. Ceiling is hard (gypsum board). No work note indicates whether ceiling should be demolished and replaced. Please advise how the Government wants this space constructed - new ceiling or surface mounted devices.

a. There is no ceiling work in this area. Existing gyp ceilings will require surface mounted devices.

2. No duct smoke detectors are shown at AHU's (#1, #2, & #3). Required?

a. AHU-1, AHU-2, and AHU-3 do not require smoke detectors.

3. Keynote #14, Sheet D-2 indicates to provide two portable toilets for duration of job.

Portable toilets are serviced on a schedule depending on number of people per day.

How many people are expected to be using these toilets per day?

a. No more than 20 persons.

4. The contract documents state that the exterior door assemblies must meet the UFC requirements for blast resistance. We are unable to find where the standoff distance is indicated. Could you please provide a standoff distance for these exterior door assemblies?

a. Use a standoff distance of 30’ for the exterior door assemblies.

5. Fire Alarm System:

Air Handling Units:

There is a fire alarm symbol indicated for a “Return Duct Mounted Smoke Detector” shown in two locations on the drawings, Mech. Rm. E7 & E8. Per NFPA 90A & UFC

3-600-01; duct mounted smoke detectors should be installed in the supply duct of all AHU’s over 2000cfm, not on the return duct.

1. Should these devices be changed from the return duct to the supply duct?

a. Existing AHU’s should show smoke detectors in supply duct only.

2. Are these the only two units that are over 2000cfm and would require duct smoke detectors?

a. AHU-3 shown on M-201 is 2000 CFM, therefore it does not require a smoke detector.

6. Elevators:

The drawings show a heat detector in the elevator equipment room and the top of the elevator shaft for two elevators, with a note to provide shunt trip activation of the associated elevator. UFC 3-600-01 requires shunt trip by means of a water flow switch. There also appears to be a sprinkler flow & tamper switch at each elevator pit.

1. Should the heat detectors be eliminated and use the flow switch for shunt trip?

a. Yes, use the flow switch. See revised drawings on addendum #1.

2. Will there just be one flow switch for each elevator?

a. Yes, one flow switch for each elevator.

3. Do the existing elevator controllers have the capability to provide recall and firefighter’s service required by UFC 3-600-01

a. Existing elevators controllers are to remain. Contractor to coordinate with controller manufacturer for connections requirements.

7. Admin Bldg. Drawing E7 & E8

There appears to be two exits from the Admin Building on both the first and second floor that are missing manual pull stations missing.

1. Should these be added?

a. Yes, see revised drawings E-7 and E-8 on addendum#1 for additional device locations.

There are several symbols on the Admin Building floor plan that are not in the legend, one appears to be a wall mounted horn strobe and one a strobe only.

1. I assume the intent is that the wall mounted notification appliances would be speaker strobes?

a. Yes, the wall mounted devices are speaker strobes. See revised drawings E-7 and E-8 on addendum #1.

2. The strobe only devices, would these need to speaker strobes as well, or stobe only?

a. They are speaker/strobes. No strobe only devices. See revised drawings E-7 and E-8 on addendum #1 for clarification.

8. Warehouse Drawing E3:

Based on the scale of the drawing it appears that from the space in the southwest corner of the warehouse the closest LOC may exceed the 200’ travel limit.

1. Is it the contractor’s responsibility to ensure that all LOC’s fall within the 200’ travel distance or do we install them as shown?

a. Yes, the contractor shall ensure the installation meets UFC and NFPA requirements. Additional LOC locations are shown in areas that are in question. See revised drawing E-3 on addendum #1.

2. There are three areas; LRS, Sierra Nevada, and Comm. Squad that have LOC’s located inside the space, these would need to be accessed from the Warehouse, I would like to confirm that these arears are not secure spaces with restricted access?

a. Additional LOC locations are added for accessibility. See revised drawing E-3 on addendum #1.

3. Would it be acceptable to move the LOC’s in these three spaces into the

Warehouse for better access?

a. Additional LOC locations are added for accessibility. See revised drawing E-3 on addendum #1.

4. The two LOC’s on the Warehouse floor plan show a Note 2; the two LOC’s in the

Admin Area show a Note 1: This Note indicates to install a circuit to a 120V panel, the LOC’s do not require 120V, please clarify the purpose of the 120V circuit?

a. Provide power per manufacturer’s requirements. If 120V power is not required the circuit may be omitted.

9. Fire Alarm Annunciator:

There is no fire alarm annunciator shown on the drawings.

1. Is an annunciator required and if so where should it be located?

a. Yes, A new annunciator shall be located in Building 90710. See revised drawing E7 on addendum #1.
