DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE

76 MAINTENANCE SUPPORT GROUP (MXSG) TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, OKLAHOMA

MEMORANDUM FOR OC-ALC/PKEA FROM: 76 MXSS/MXDVBBB (13B087)

19 Aug2013

SUBJECT: Brand Name Justification for purchase of SquareD, Siemens, Appleton electrical products:

l. Due to the hazardous location (safety) and parent equi pment (compatibility) currently installed, the brand name products requested are the only parts that will work in this application.

2. The receptacles chosen and called for on the drawing is the Appleton brand name. Two reasons for this selection:

•Tbis particular brand name is already being used by the painting personnel in AMXG. The switching device is an easy to use handle that allows a worker to quickly shut of power in an emergency.
•Having two different types requires workers to be trained on both types with two slightly different emergency procedures. Selecting the same type will enhance safety procedures for workers in the paint area as well as providing the easily accessible handle for quick shutoff. The area is classified as hazardous, Class I, Division 1 in accordance with article 500 ofNFPA 70.

3. The Square D parts chose for this project are the only parts that are compatible with Existing/Parent SquareD equipment and parts. (Breakers, Panels, Boxes, Fronts, Interiors, and Ground Kits) Failure to purchase Square D will result in the complete rewire and replacement of other panels along with significant downtime to the shop and i ncreased labor hours to install.

4. The Siemens parts chose for this project are the only parts that are compatible with Existing/Parent Siemens equipment and parts. (Breakers) failure to purchase specific brand will result in a complete rewire and replacement of panels, shop downtime and increased labor hours to accommodate the non conforming breakers.

5. The point of contact for this issue is Phil Paxton, 76 MXSG/OBIP, 405-582-4419.
