Subject: Response to questions Portable Tower F1TBBB9155A001-synopsis Date: 7 July 2009 These are the responses to questions submitted by a vender in response to the portable tower solicitation. The questions where received via e-mail and numbered and organized in the following format.
1. Are there any pictures available of one of an existing unit or is this a first time item? If there is an existing unit could pictures be taken and provided to us?
Reply: No
2. The solicitation mentions a platform, but no dimensions of the width or length, only the height.
Reply: There is a platform size within the synopsis, "~5ftx8ft", see item 10
3. It also does not state the lifting capacity (in lbs. or tons) (or what is the maximum weight of all the equipment that will be on this platform?) for this lift, so it is impossible to determine the required lifting capacity and thus sizing of the scissor jacks, hydraulic cylinders, Reply: Item 8 of the synopsis states " In addition to the weight of the booth, the platform will support >500lbs." The total requirement as a whole pretty much describes the composition of the booth and components.
4. etc. Additionally, it calls out "openings" in each side of the platform walls, but doesn't state the size of these openings or the
Reply: Within the technical requirements there are several references to openings.
There are the specific openings referred to in item 14. There are windows are identified in items 15 through 18. A door opening is identified in item 11. Once the wall height is established through a design/layout, a usable door height other than “typical” can be defined.
5. height of the sidewalls themselves.
Reply: In regards to the height of the side walls, they will be determined by item 3 and 6. Item 3 has a requirement of “25 to 30 ft platform height (platform extended)” and item 6 has a “(ground to highest point) should not go beyond 9’11” ”. Item 7 has the platform height at “3 to 4ft” retracted. Based on those heights and the type of lifting mechanism implemented, a side wall height could be determined. It seems that the wall height could be somewhere between 71 to 83 inches, preferably closer to 83”. The thickness of the roof must also be considered. Hopefully the design would provide a door opening and inside ceiling without a 6’4” person having to stoop.
6. It also does not specify the type of material to be used for this enclosure wood? steel? stainless steel? aluminum? Does it need to be weather-proof?
Reply: See item 26 of the synopsis “The booth to be fabricated from aluminum.” Also item 1 states “A weather tight enclosed booth on platform mounted to a single axle trailer”. And item 31 “There needs to be sufficient weather proofing to prevent the booth from leaking in a "typical" rain storm.”
7. What type of trailer mount is required?
Reply: If the question is understood. See Item 1 of the requirements stating a “single” axle trailer. And item 2 of the description which states “a scissor type, or similar lifting mechanism”
8. Are wheel sizes at the discretion of the supplier or are they to be of a certain size and design (all weather, heavy tread?)?
Reply: As with any trailer the total load must be considered when sizing tires.
9. It sounds like this may be a commercially available item that has been bought from one vendor in the past. Is that the case with this item?
Reply: A synopsis/requirement was generated based on our needs. We currently have a open platform and partially mobile “scissor” jack system. There are other requirements that are defined in the synopsis that are needed. The intent is to get a usable system with the least amount of risk by modifying a commercially available system to satisfy what is at this point a single requirement.
