QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
1. Spec 260519 paragraph 2.3 states “No MC allowed” will MC be allowed between junction boxes concealed in walls? For equipment connections? For concealed light fixture whips?
Response: Bid as stated in specification. Specific exceptions can be submitted as a question in a RFI during construction.
2. Spec 260534 paragraph 2.2A “4 in. octagonal boxes for fixtures. Would 4 in Sq. with 4 in P-rings be acceptable?
Response: Response: Intent of the octagonal boxes is to match round bases of light fixtures. As long as the luminaire bases cover the square boxes this is acceptable.
3. Spec 262726 paragraph 2.2C states “color to be selected by contracting officer”. Shall we assume standard colors (white, ivory, brown)? This paragraph is referenced in receptacles as well.
Response: Standard colors will be selected for faceplates and receptacles, refer to amendment No 2 for color of IT jacks.
4. Sheet E-8 detail 3 and 6 requires the electrical contractor provide structural engineering for the pole bases. Could the structural engineers of record provide this to us prior to bidding?
Response: Bid as stated on drawings. Another acceptable method is to use a pre-engineered anchor base such as Oldcastle Precast Omni Foundation Series.
5. Can there be structural/architectural details provided for bollard light installation in the concrete?
Response: Bid as stated on drawings. This suggestion can be asked during construction.
6. Can we get a detail of Patio outlet installation shown in base bid?
Response: Assuming this question is for the Alternate 1 outlets in wall. Conduit to be routed in the pre-cast concrete. Bricks will need to lay around the flush masonry junction box. Bottom of junction box to be 9-inches. Provide label on while-in-cover: “Event Power Only” due to outlet below ADA height.
7. Can we get clarification on PV system bidding? The drawings E-3 and E-6 do not match in module counts or size and as it is stated now it is unclear on how to price up. Do you want the additional 2 sections priced individually as an adder to the base size (increasing in size each time) or priced as 3 different but whole systems?
Response: The note on E-3 is an entire system minimum size for base bid, additive bid #5 and additive bid #6. The base bid system size is not included in the additive bid sizes. The name “additive bid” should only be thought of as a cost adder only to the base bid price. Base bid and each additive bid should be considered a complete different system to reach best price. Sheet E-3 points to the array section that belongs to base bid. Additive bid #5 and #6 includes section pointed to plus base bid. Note that #6 points to own section plus area also called out for #5. Sheet E-6 shows base bid except section bordered by note 7. The sheet keynotes revise one-line to additive bid #5 and #6.
8. Please confirm that the Local Utility company will be responsible for the secondary conductors and their installation?
Response: The contractor will be responsible for installing secondary conductors and to provide and install meter base, see revised electrical drawings..
9. Is the optional construction parking/trailer area shown on drawing C-13 the only area that can be used for this project? Is there material lay down areas available in the native grass areas? If native grass areas are used what finish condition is expected of these areas used?
Response: Contractor shall limit construction activities within the limits identified on the drawings, construction parking trailer can be located anywhere within these boundaries. Contractor shall limit lay down area within construction boundary identified.
10. What are our options for temporary power until permanent utility transformer is set in place?
Response: Temporary power is the responsibility of the contractor and could be provided for by portable generator, temporary service from the existing service at the Visitors Center or from the Xcel transformer to the north of the site. It is anticipated that the new transformer will be set approximately November 1st.
11. Drawing L-2 states that the relocation of Gate and Controls is by USFWS, drawing E-1 states to remove and relocate motorized gate equipment. Please clarify what scope the GC is responsible for in regards to the gate, controls, bollards etc.?
Response: Contractor shall extend and or relocate all power controls and associated equipment from current location to new location as called out on Entrance Road Realignment drawing E-1. FWS will relocate the gate itself or replace the gate with a new one.
12. Section 263100,2.2.C. & D. – Very specific module performance requirements and dimensions are called out. Are these really required or can we provide best commercial value?

Response: Preference is to not use a transformer. Bid without, this can be suggested as a VE idea during construction.
14. Section 263100, 3.2.C. – Is 1000VDC ok for the larger add alternative?
Response: 1000VDC is acceptable.
15. Is the SE azimuth of the PV array intentional? The performance of the array will be better if faced closer to true south.
Response: Array currently aligns with drive. Rotation of array can be considered during construction.
16. Noting that the PV arrays will require a “crusher fines pad and weed barrier” under them.
Response: Correct
17. Noting that 350 Watt modules are called out specifically. Is that a requirement? Not more not less?
Response: This is basis of design module and what the documents are designed based on. Select a product with similar quality and adjust design as required for the different product characteristics.
18. Noting that the spec’d DC capacity amounts are very specific, as detailed below. Can we instead provide best design (even string sizes), plus or minus a few modules? Our typical stringing design standard may not work out to these exact numbers of modules.

54. The ditches are listed and the coils will be two coils per ditch. What the loop lengths are for total length. I am assuming the loop lengths are calculated from the manifold inside the building to the field and back to the building again.
Response: The length is calculated from the manifold inside the building to the field (and including the loops in the field), and back to the building again. Calculate length based on this path, the spacing of the loops, and the diameters of the loops. This length will be different for every loo. Each loop (from manifold, to slinky, the slinky itself, back to the manifold) is approximately 1200 ft. This varies depending on the piping between the slinky and the manifold. The slinky portion is approximately 760 ft. .
55. What material is to be used for pipe bedding for the different types of piping? RESPONSE: Either sand (Type C) or pea gravel (Type E) can be used for pipe bedding.
56. What material is used for the pipe zone backfill? RESPONSE: Type A, C and E are all acceptable for pipe zone and the trench zone? Type A through G and Type I are allowable for trench zone. Can native material be used for either of these zones? Processed native material that meets the gradation requirements may be used for pipe zone, it is already allowed as Type I for trench zone.
