Project Info
Project or Engagement Overview:
Project Description The IEMA Division of Nuclear Safety is implementing LabVantage, a specialized Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This project will modernize laboratory workflows and serve as a central database system to manage all laboratory data and support efficiency workflow, data analysis, reporting, and archiving.. The agency requires expert technical resources to execute the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), system configuration, and data integration.
Project Objective
• Implement and operationalize the LabVantage Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for the Nuclear Safety Radiochemistry Lab.
• Enable accurate and efficient migration of existing equation-based logic from Excel spreadsheets into Groovy scripting within LabVantage.
• Establish test specifications and control limits that define acceptance criteria for quality control samples and instrument performance.
• Support business users in validating, testing, and refining the implemented calculations to ensure correctness and usability.
In Scope
• Analysis and interpretation of existing Excel-based equations and calculations used by the business.
• Conversion of equations into Groovy scripting compatible with LabVantage.
• Integration and deployment of scripted logic into the LabVantage system.
• Collaboration with business stakeholders for:
o Functional validation o Iterative testing and refinement
• Support for handling a large volume of equations currently being manually managed by the business.
• Provision of resources with:
o Groovy scripting expertise o Familiarity with LabVantage (preferred) o Strong mathematical/analytical background
Out of Scope mailto:Steve.Peralta@krasanconsulting.com
Project Info
• Full implementation or configuration of the entire LabVantage platform outside of equation conversion.
• Redesign or re-engineering of business processes unrelated to equation migration.
• Development of new scientific models or formulas beyond converting existing logic.
• Long-term production support or maintenance post-deployment (unless separately defined).
• Data migration beyond equation logic (e.g., historical lab data, sample records).
Goals
• Equation Conversion Inventory o Catalog of Excel-based equations identified for migration
• Groovy Script Libraries o Converted and validated scripts aligned to LabVantage standards
• Configured LabVantage Components o Deployed equations integrated into the system
• Testing & Validation Results o Documentation of business testing outcomes o Issue logs and resolution tracking
• User Validation Sign-off o Confirmation from business stakeholders on accuracy and completeness
• Knowledge Transfer Documentation o Guidance for business users to maintain and adjust scripts as needed
Assumptions
• Existing Excel equations are well-defined, accessible, and interpretable.
• Business stakeholders are available to clarify logic and participate in testing cycles.
• LabVantage environment and required access are provisioned and ready for integration.
• Required tools and environments for Groovy scripting are available.
• Scope is limited to conversion and validation, not creation of new formulas.
• Volume of equations, while large, can be prioritized and handled in phased execution.
• Resources with Groovy and/or LabVantage experience can be onboarded in a timely manner.
Estimated Duration: 1 year
Project Work Location and Working Hours:
This project will be remote/hybrid in location, and the team is expected to work 40 hours per week during agency work times of 8:00am to 4:30pm CST unless otherwise defined by the Agency.
