REFRIGERATION AND AC SHIP CHECK NOTES

Item No 1 – SR No 0301988 – Refrigeration and Condensers

The specific type of upgrades require that the contractor either have the required credentials to handle refrigerants and is licensed to do the specific Refrigeration and HVAC work required or as a subcontractor to the awarded contractor

A survey of the job was done by Quality Refrigeration with the specific requirements necessary to remove old equipment and install new equipment. See the attached document at the end of this set of notes

The DeSuperheater assembly is to have all insulation removed and disposed of properly so that it can be pressure tested to find any possible leaks. Pressure testing to be done using Nitrogen and to be done at something more than operating pressure. Past cruise had problems with gas charge loss with no explanation of where the leak was located. Provide MARAD with a CFR of the findings and what repairs (if any) are needed and associated costs. After all inspections and repairs (if needed) are completed, contractor to supply all labor and material necessary to reinsulate the desuperheater on both units making sure to have a tight fit so that there are no air gaps in the new insulation with metal jacketing

Survey all valves and write up a CFR to list material and labor costs to renew all to the same type and quality as the new valves fitted to the new controls on the Domestic Reefer Boxes.

Any ball valves are to be renewed.

Renew all Relief Valves and Burst Discs (4 total of each) with new valves of the correct size and capacity as those installed and proper for the new compressors that the awarded contractor will supply and install

Final installation of the new compressors and associated upgrades and repairs are to be completed by April 10, 2017 with a complete test of all the domestic boxes operated by both new compressors and with stable operation keeping the all the boxes in temperature

Once the ship is fully stored, Contractor is to return to the vessel to make sure that the settings for the capacity of the compressor and all new valves and fittings are working properly before the ship leaves on cruise April 23, 2017

M/V Golden Bear Quality Refrigeration Report

Reference: Refrigeration plant

Condition Found Report

Found the system was converted from R-12 to R-134-A refrigerant. When this happen there was never an increase in capacity on the equipment. The amount of capacity lost is 5%.

The below is what should be done to the system to make it a fully up and running R-134A system with a 5% increase.

Quality Refrigeration Company, Inc. is pleased to quote the following:

All parts which will be installed will be genuine Carrier OEM parts.

2 each-- 5H 60-C109-M-QR compressors

2 each-- QR-2-5H oil coolers

2 each-- 5H40-394 Flywheels

Compressor Skids

• Recover the refrigerant out of the system

• Disconnect and prepare for removal of the 2 York Compressors

• Furnish and install two New OEM Carrier Compressors with a 5% increase

• Furnish and install motor and compressor pulleys and belts

• Install 1 Carrier oil cooler per compressor with its own TXV, solenoid valve shutoff valves and thermostat

• Remove and replace the suction to liquid line heat exchanger

• Remove and replace the suction, discharge and oil gauges on both compressor skids

• Install 2 new Crankcase Heaters

• Remove and replace oil failure, discharge and suction pressure switches

• Remove and replace all suction, discharge and liquid line valves with replacement valves

• Check Desuperheater for leaks (crew reported loss during last cruise in 2016)

• Retube the condensers on both compressor skids

• Reconnect piping, electrical and controls

• Pressure test the system @ 150 PSI for 24 hours with no pressure drop

• Evacuate the system to 500 Microns

• Charge system with refrigerant new R-134-A

• Start-up and check operation

Port unit is under warranty for any mechanical failure by CAMS who renewed the unit last April 2016. Awarded contractor is still responsible for the routine maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer.

Routine maintenance to include but is not limited to the following:

• Fabricate as needed a filter holder that can hold a filter either be cleaned or renewed ahead of the evaporator. Provide a CFR with the sketch of what is to be installed and supply spare filters for both units. Clean the evaporators of all debris using nitrogen or other nondestructive means

• Freshwater wash the two condensers on the deck above the evaporator units and then blow dry with Nitrogen. Do no use any soap or solvents which have a tendency to deteriorate the fins

• MARAD to supply the manufacturer’s instruction manual maintenance instructions and specifications

Page #6 – EOS AC Unit – R134a Refrigerant

Unit is under warranty for any mechanical failure by CAMS who renewed the unit last April 2016. Awarded contractor is still responsible for the routine maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer.

Awarded Contractor to perform all necessary rountine maintenance and operational checks:

• Clean both condenser and evaporators as necessary to make sure that they get the proper heat transfer.

Note: Condenser must have CFW system to supply cooling water for same at the proper temperature to make sure that the AC system operates correctly

• Check the motor amps and gas charge and compressor suction and discharge pressures plus the capability of the unit to maintain setpoint room temperature

• Return to the ship once the ship is crewed and under cruise operating conditions and before the ship leaves on cruise to make sure that the unit is operating as per design.

Ship leaves on April 23, 2017. Suggested date is Friday April 21st, 2017

Domestic Refrigeration Boxes – Door and Box needed maintenance

• Fish Box Door – Renew the door with a similar door with internal emergency door release and gaskets and SS covering. Remove existing door and dispose of properly

• All other Domestic boxes – Supply and install new hinges, gaskets and test and repair as needed the internal emergency door release

• Once the system is operational, return to the ship to make sure that the heating system for the doors is operating correctly so that the doors do not freeze in place

• Provide CFR for any unforeseen items related with the door removal as noted above

• Freeze box – Right Hand Evaporator Defrost Termination Switch is bad. Supply and install new and test to make sure system works as per design
