1. General Information Name of Task: Organizational histories and timelines of Federal administration of specific tribal trust lands Goal of Task: These reports will reconstruct the history of the Federal government’s administration of trust lands since 1946 at 10 specific reservations to assist in records collection efforts and transactional accounting.

Scope: These 10 organizational history reports and timelines will focus on the Federal administration of lands held in trust by the United States since 1946 for each of the following tribes:

· Comanche Nation, Oklahoma;

· Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation;

· Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma;

· Seminole Tribe of Florida;

· Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate of the Lake Traverse Reservation, South Dakota;

· Southern Ute Indian Tribe of the Southern Ute Reservation, Colorado;

· Penobscot Nation (also known as the Penobscot Indian Nation);

· Pueblo of Acoma, New Mexico;

· Quinault Indian Nation;

· White Earth Band of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe, Minnesota (also known as the White Earth Nation);

Each organizational history will reconstruct the history of the Federal Government’s organizational infrastructure responsible for administration of the specific tribe’s trust lands and resources. Concentration will be on the Bureau of Indian Affairs, but will also include other Federal agencies as necessary. Each organizational history will identify the current repository and estimated volume of administrative documents related to administration of the tribe’s trust lands and resources.

Each timeline will include the key developments related to the administration of the tribe’s tribal trust lands and resources, including laws, administrative reorganizations, policy decisions, changes in tribal governing capacity, and other relevant developments. Each point in the timeline will be supported by cited documents. The goal of the timeline is to serve as a reference guide for working with historical documents and data.
