About this file
This purchase description outlines requirements for long read sequencing kits to support neurodegenerative disease research. The National Institute on Aging's Center for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias seeks to acquire 84 PromethION flow cells, 7 kits each of Ligation Sequencing, Flow Cell Wash, and Sequencing Auxiliary kits, totaling 28 of the latter, to enable automated robotic sequencing on Oxford Nanopore systems. The flow cells must generate up to 290 GB of DNA, cDNA, or native RNA sequence data, integrate with PromethION 48 sequencers, and contain recyclable electrical components including an application-specific integrated circuit to control the sequencing process. These reagents will enable the agency to further its mission of identifying causative genes for neurodegenerative diseases.

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose: The purpose of this acquisition is to provide supplies to the Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (a center within the National Institute on Aging) for the purpose of long read sequencing on Oxford Nanopore manufactured sequencing systems. These reagents will be used for neurodegenerative disease research to identify causative genes for neurodegenerative diseases.
2. Background Information and Objective: Automated robotic Oxford Nanopore sequencing systems require the use of proprietary reagents to ensure efficient operation and the desired outcomes of the operating systems. Oxford Nanopore has been used successfully by this lab on multiple occasions for genotyping analysis. The laboratory has purchased through competitive procedures several Oxford Nanopore sequencing systems which are a platform for genetic analysis and functional genomics. Each Oxford Nanopore system requires the use of reagents and consumables to ensure efficient operation and the desired outcomes of the operating systems. Reagents are chemicals and enzymes used to perform an assay or research sequencing methodology. All reagents must be compatible with, and optimally perform in the Oxford Nanopore manufactured systems. The laboratory uses standardized protocols with the Oxford Nanopore equipment and there are additional protocols in process at the development stage.
