The primary purpose was to detect faults, evaluate seismic material properties, and characterize subsurface conditions for the pit area extension. The evaluation was conducted in
August 2022, and a submitted report included details of the survey methodology, equipment used, analysis, and results. The report included information on the scope of services for each method, site and project description, and evaluation methodology and analysis for seismic reflection, MASW, and seismic refraction.
Goodwin and Black Rock Washes
HSAMT Exploration, San Carlos Apache Reservation, Arizona:
Project Geophysicist responsible for performing a detailed geophysical study for groundwater well siting project at Goodwin Wash and Black Rock Wash on the San Carlos Apache Reservation in Arizona. Used Hybrid Source Audio Magnetotellurics (HSAMT) evaluation to detect shallow groundwater aquifers. Data acquisition conducted at nine-line locations with a total of seventy HSAMT stations.
The project sites were characterized by native desert terrain crossed by wash drainages and unimproved roads. Steep slopes and vegetation are present in certain areas. The HSAMT method was used, employing the Geometrics Geode EM3D HSAMT system. Data was acquired at different frequencies and orientations to measure variations in the earth's electric and magnetic fields. Our study indicated the presence of resistivity variations at different depths. Data was compiled, analyzed, and presented in an illustrated report delivered after the completion of fieldwork.
Frisco Avenue Bridge Seismic Study, Clifton, Arizona:
Project Geophysicist responsible for performing a geophysical evaluation to characterize subsurface conditions at a project site in Clifton, Arizona. Objective of the project was to develop subsurface velocity profiles along predetermined seismic traverses. The performance of two seismic refraction microtremor (ReMi) profiles and two seismic refraction lines were conducted at the project site.
ReMi profiles and refraction line utilized a 24-channel Geometrics Strataview seismograph and 24 vertical component geophones (4.5 and 14mhz respectively). The collected data was processed using advanced surface wave processing software, generating phase-velocity dispersion curves and a 1-D shear-wave velocity model of the site with high accuracy. The data collected was compiled, analyzed, and presented in a comprehensive report.
Saddleback Heights – Village 14
Rock-Cut Slope Kinematic Analyses, Peoria, Arizona Project Geophysicist conducted a limited geophysical evaluation at the Saddleback Heights Village 14 project site in Peoria, Arizona. The evaluation aimed to measure the rock fracture/joint attitudes that could potentially affect the planned rock cut slope orientation at twenty-nine proposed locations. The kinematic analysis assessed the qualitative potential for rockfall from various failure modes such as toppling, sliding, and wedge failures. A total of twenty-eight kinematic analyses were conducted, providing insights into the rock slope stability.
The scope of services included performing kinematic analyses, collecting bedrock fracture/joint data, and analyzing the data using stereonet projections.
The evaluation methodology involved excavating test pits at specified locations to expose less weathered bedrock and determine the orientation of joint/fracture sets. Additional measurements were taken at naturally exposed bedrock outcrops. The orientations of joint/fracture attitudes were recorded using a geologic Brunton compass.
The collected data were analyzed using Dips software, which provided a qualitative evaluation of the relative risk for rockfall potential from different failure mechanisms.
The results of the kinematic analyses are presented, indicating the potential for failure or rockfall.
The illustrated report presented the survey methodology, equipment used, analysis, and findings.
