STATEMENT OF WORK
(BRAND NAME: Tecan) Fluent 780 with system cabinet and accessories
BACKGROUND:
The NIH Intramural Sequencing Center (NISC) is a high throughput facility for performing DNA sequencing. NISC services investigators across all institutes and centers at the NIH and have done so since 1997. Over the years NISC has adapted to the rapidly evolving technologies in the DNA sequencing field. Currently NISC operates a variety of Illumina sequencers including three MiSeqs and one NovaSeq 6000. Scientific Investigators also operate the newest Pacific Biosciences Sequel II and the Oxford Nanopore GridION and PromethION for projects requiring long reads in the tens of thousands of bases. NISC processes approximately 7,000 samples a year, so automation is a critical requirement for high throughput with rapid turnaround times.
Purpose and Objectives:
The NIH Intramural Sequencing Center (NISC) is a high throughput facility for performing DNA sequencing. NISC provides services for all institutes and centers of the NIH. Approximately seven thousand samples are processed each year at this facility. In order to process this number of samples various forms of automation are incorporated, including robots capable of processing at least 96-samples at a time. Recent increases in demand for sequencing RNA samples and whole genome sequencing have put an added stress on NISC resources requiring additional automation and replacement of old equipment.
NISC currently operates a 16-year-old Biomek FX (Beckman) and a 2-year-old Biomek i7 (Beckman).
The Biomek i7 robot is being used to capacity but the Biomek FX has limited capability, so NISC needs to replace the Biomek FX with an updated instrument to be able to meet current and future sequencing demands.

Contractor Facility Access Procedures Onsite contractor personnel The Contractor shall handle all logistics of complying with NIH facility access requirements. Responsibility remains with the Contractor for compliance of their personnel and appropriately ties that compliance to contract performance (typically these contractor personnel will have PIV cards). See NIH Facility Access Plan for Contractors.
Transient Visitors (delivery drivers, couriers, U.S. Postal Service personnel, Federal Express personnel, United Parcel Service personnel, and other visitors accessing a federal facility for less than approximately 15 minutes and who interact with very few people.
Not required to follow visitor procedures or provide certification of their compliance to the CO/COR/Purchase Agent as a condition of entry, even when the local COVID-19 Community Level in the county where the Federal facility is located is MEDIUM or HIGH. They should be required to follow required safety protocols consistent with their vaccination status while accessing the facility.
