Precursor Powders Specifications
May 4, 2022
INTRODUCTION
This specification is for the precursor powders to be used for iron-based superconductors for the high field magnetic applications.
Table1: Quotation of special composite compounds of raw materials for IBS (iron-based superconductor) Ba (barium)-122 phase precursors shall meet the composition in table 1.
Doping elements
Final composition Chemical additives
Amount of powder per tube
# of Ag tube*
Total amount of the precursor**
K 1Ba0.6K0.47Fe2As2.1 No Addition
5g/tube 2 10g
K 2Ba0.6K0.4-0.5Fe2As2-2.2 No
Addition 5g/tube 12 60g
K 2Ba0.6K0.4-0.5Fe2As2-2.2(Sn) Sn
(5wt.%) 5g/tube 14 70g
Co 3Ba(Co0.08Fe0.92)2As2 No
Addition 5g/tube 2 10g
Total 30 150g
1These special composite compounds of raw materials wt/wo Sn (tin) additive will be delivered to TUAT for IBS precursors synthesis by the vendor. After synthesis, the materials will be delivered to Fermi National Lab (for wire fabrication after filled into Ag tube).
2The composition of K (potassium)-doped IBS (iron-based superconductor) is (Ba + K) : Fe : As = 1:2:2 nominal atomic % ratio.
3Co (cobalt)-doped Ba 122 phase is only for no Sn additive (selected for the synthesis reference).
* 5g of the IBS Ba-122 phase precursor is the exact amount for Ag tube filling. (Ag tubes are not included in this request for quotation, Ag tube is I.D: 4mm, O.D:6mm, 12.5 cm long).
**Total amount of the precursor indicates the amount of the materials that will be filled into Ag tubes for individual compositions of IBS precursor.
- The proposed compositions (for quotation) are very special compound that will be applied for fabrication of high-quality iron-based superconducting (IBS) wire based on power-in-tube method (PIT).
