About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by UNICOR, Federal Prison Industries, Inc., seeking market research and pricing information for plastic injection molding materials for use at the Butner Optical facility in Butner, North Carolina.
The RFI requests pricing on five line items totaling 17,000 pounds of FDA food-grade polypropylene materials in various forms and colors. Item 0001 specifies 10,000 pounds of CHG2198 material meeting FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 with defined physical, mechanical, thermal, and hardness specifications suitable for high-speed injection molding of caps, closures, and consumer goods. Items 0002 through 0005 request 5,000 pounds of natural polypropylene pellets, 1,000 pounds of tan pellets, 500 pounds of orange pellets, and 500 pounds of amber pellets respectively—all polypropylene random copolymer materials certified for food-contact applications and potable water systems. All pricing must include shipping costs, with UNICOR's desired delivery timeframe of fifteen days or sooner after issuance of each delivery order. Vendors must submit written pricing to Chad Privett at chad.privett2@usdoj.gov and maintain an active registration in SAM.gov at the time of submission. Required vendor information includes SAM Unique Entity ID, point of contact, telephone and fax number, email address, and business size classification. The specifications are noted as suggested, with similar specifications acceptable provided materials meet FDA food-grade requirements.

Material Overview
Polypro P00 is a polypropylene random copolymer (PPR) designed for pressurized liquid-handling systems. It is supplied as natural, unpigmented resin pellets suitable for extrusion and injection molding. The material offers high impact strength, excellent weldability, and long-term thermal stability, making it suitable for potable-water and industrial piping applications.
Physical Properties
• Material Type — Polypropylene Random Copolymer (PPR)
• Color — Natural / unpigmented
• Density — ~0.90 g/cm³ (ISO 1183)
• Surface Tension — 30–35 mJ/m²
• Linear Expansion Coefficient — 0.16–0.18 mm/m·K (DIN 53752)
• Thermal Conductivity — 0.23 W/m·K (EN 12664)
• Surface Resistivity — >10¹⁶ Ω (IEC 60093)
