Subtask 3: Geotechnical Investigation Description: Due to site access constraints, the presence of the adjacent first-magnitude Blue Spring, and the highly karstic geology of the site, drilling of SPT soil borings would require an extensive work effort. Due to the anticipated high cost of such an effort, EGS proposes to conduct a Limited Evaluation using hand-auger soil borings to characterize the near-surface soils immediately below and behind the wall. This evaluation does not include any wall design, foundation design, slope or global stability, or any other design-related efforts.
Scope of Services:
Field:
o Mobilize on Site o Install 3, +/-10-ft Deep Hand Auger Soil Borings: 1 at walkway grade near south end of wall; 1 near top of wall within the slope near south end of full height section; and 1 within the slope above the tie-in to the intact wall.
o Install 1-20 Ft SPT Boring at Top of Slope (20 Ft/1 Day)
Laboratory o Grainsize Test, 3 at Each Hand Auger Soil Boring + Every 5 Ft of SPT Boring: 16
Tests o Atterberg Limits at Every Hand Auger Soil Boring + Every 20 Ft Of STP Boring: 4
Tests o Organic Content, 2 at Each Hand Auger Soil Boring + Every 20 Ft of SPT Boring: 7
Tests Report o Prepare a geotechnical report, including:
Subsurface Materials Encountered Measured Groundwater Levels Provide the following parameters: soil stratification with unit densities, friction angle & earth pressure coefficients Provide general foundation preparation guidelines Provide Preliminary External Stability of the Existing Wall and Summary of
Options for Reconstruction of Wall Provide Plan Sheet of Report of Soil Borings
