About this file
This document is a PVWatts Calculator analysis report provided by the National Lab of the Rockies (NLR), operated by the Alliance for Energy Innovation, LLC, for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The report presents photovoltaic system performance predictions for a 234 kW DC solar installation located at latitude 38.21°N and longitude 84.86°W in the 40601 ZIP code area. The analysis utilizes 30 years of historical weather data from the National Solar Radiation Database (NSRDB) to project system output and interannual variability. The PV system is configured as a fixed open-rack array with a 20-degree tilt, 180-degree azimuth orientation, 1.2 DC-to-AC size ratio, and an estimated 14.08% total system losses including 96% inverter efficiency. No bidder meetings, site visits, response dates, or contract terms are specified in this technical analysis document.
The projected annual energy output for the system is 309,882 kWh per year, with a possible range of 293,056 to 322,959 kWh annually based on historical weather variability. Monthly output ranges from a low of 15,598 kWh in December to a peak of 33,447 kWh in June, with corresponding solar radiation values between 2.54 and 6.45 kWh/m²/day. The DC capacity factor is calculated at 15.1%, and the analysis indicates zero monthly irradiance losses across all months. The document includes a disclaimer indicating that the PVWatts Model is provided "as is" without warranties or liability, and notes that more sophisticated modeling tools such as the System Advisor Model are available for complex PV system analysis. No pricing information, funding sources, or contractual set-asides are included in this technical report.

Caution: Photovoltaic system performance predictions calculated by PVWatts® include many inherent assumptions and uncertainties and do not reflect variations between PV technologies nor site-specific characteristics except as represented by PVWatts® inputs. For example, PV modules with better performance are not differentiated within PVWatts® from lesser performing modules. Both NLR and private companies provide more sophisticated PV modeling tools (such as the System Advisor Model at //sam.nlr.gov) that allow for more precise and complex modeling of PV systems.
The expected range is based on 30 years of actual weather data at the given location and is intended to provide an indication of the variation you might see. For more information, please refer to this NLR report:
