About this file

This document is a Scope of Work for a road base material project at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. The project involves furnishing, hauling, dumping, and spreading approximately 2,800 tons of Class 6 road base material along a 2-mile, 18-foot-wide unpaved road segment. The contractor is required to supply clean, angular aggregate meeting Colorado DOT or local jurisdiction standards, conduct a site inspection, transport the material, and spread it to a uniform 3-inch depth.

The project is estimated to take 10 working days, with work hours from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Key assumptions include an clear and passable access road, no need for additional traffic control permits, and favorable weather conditions. The scope explicitly excludes compaction, motor grading, drainage treatment, and surveying. Deliverables include uniformly dumped and spread road base material and documentation of material quantities and source.

Scope of Work Project Title: Dump and Spread Class 6 Road Base on 2-Mile Road Segment

Location: North Rim Road, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

1. Project Overview The purpose of this project is to furnish, haul, dump, and spread Class 6 road base material on an unpaved road. The road is approximately 2 miles (10,560 linear feet) in length and 18 feet wide. The material will be spread to a uniform depth of 3 inches. The total estimated quantity is approximately 2,800 tons.

2. Scope of Work The contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, supervision, and incidentals required to complete the following tasks:

2.1 Material Specifications

- Supply and deliver Class 6 aggregate road base, meeting applicable specifications (e.g., Colorado DOT or local jurisdiction standards).

- Material must be clean, angular, and properly graded for use as a base layer for road construction or resurfacing.

2.2 Site Preparation

- Conduct a site inspection prior to mobilization to assess conditions and plan delivery logistics.

- Ensure the roadbed is free of major obstructions that would impede delivery or spreading.

2.3 Hauling and Dumping

- Transport approximately 2,800 tons of Class 6 road base to the job site.

(Calculation adjusted for bulk density and site-specific compaction assumptions. Based on estimated field conditions, total volume to achieve 3-inch coverage over 2 miles is projected to require ~2,800 tons of material.)

- Material shall be dumped in a consistent pattern along the roadway to facilitate even coverage.

2.4 Spreading

- Spread material evenly across the 18-foot-wide road section to achieve a uniform 3-inch depth.

- Ensure material distribution is consistent with project coverage requirements.

3. Deliverables

- Uniformly dumped and spread Class 6 base material over a continuous 2-mile, 18-foot-wide road segment.

- Delivery records of material quantities and source.

4. Schedule

- Estimated project duration: 10 working days from the date of mobilization.

- Work hours: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday

5. Assumptions

- The access road is clear and passable by hauling equipment.

- No traffic control or permits are required beyond standard operating procedures.

- Weather conditions will allow uninterrupted work.

6. Exclusions

- No compaction or rolling of road base material.

- No use of motor graders or fine grading of material.

- No drainage or surface treatment beyond initial spreading.

- Surveying or engineering layout.
