1.0 - Background on the Government’s Requirement
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Arcata Field Office requires roads-related construction services to replace deteriorated culverts along Prosper Ridge Road in the King Range National Conservation Area (Map 1). The project will install new culverts and upgrade associated surface drainage conditions along approximately one mile of rural dirt and aggregate-surface road in Humboldt County near the community of Petrolia. The road provides access to both public and private lands. Specific actions include culvert replacements, rolling dip construction, aggregate base installation, road reshaping, and rock armoring of vulnerable fill slopes. The contractor will have to supply culverts, rock and water for compaction purposes at each of the treatment sites. The government will provide culvert pipe for one of the sites as detailed below. The work will be in a relatively remote setting with poor to nonexistent cell phone coverage.
2.0 - General Scope of Work
Services include the removal and installation of culverts at three sites along Prosper Ridge Road. The site locations are shown on the map in Figure 1 and the table below lists the general scope of work entailed for each site. Culvert replacement sites will be accompanied by installation of rolling dips, critical dips and rock armoring on the approaches. Specifications for rolling dips and critical dips are provided in Appendix A and contractor will be required to adhere to these in order to provide all season vehicle passage. Prior to the start of work, the BLM will stake and/or flag individual treatment sites.
