Sample Task Order for Reference Only. The Government is not Soliciting Quotes.

General Area

The area that this work will take place in is on the east side of the cascades at about 4300 ft. The forest is uneven aged mixed conifer, consisting of white fir, ponderosa pine, sugar pine, incense cedar, and

Douglas-fir. There is minimal brush and slope (<10%) throughout the project area. Roads are rocked as well as natural surfaced and are generally in good condition.

The work for this task order consists primarily of cutting and yarding both merchantable (>8” DBH) and sub-merchantable (<8” DBH) material from the area shown on the Task Order map. The sub-merchantable and merchantable material will also need to be hauled offsite for utilization. The value of the material will offset some of the expense of the bid items as described in the contract.

Stand Composition

• Sub-merchantable material- per the LIDAR (tallest trees green, shortest trees yellow) on the

Snack Shack Stand Map with LIDAR the area was interplanted with seedlings that are now 2-8”

DBH, and are generally a mix of pine and Douglas fir. These trees need to be thinned to a rough

15’ x 15’ spacing. (See section C.5.4.1 in the SOW for selection criteria).

o Choose most vigorous trees to leave o Prioritize Douglas-fir over pine if trees are similarly sized/vigorous o In stand F leave the majority of the submerch Doug-fir. Space off of unmarked pine.

o Donut around large pines and Douglas-fir.

o Trees do not need to be evenly spaced. If more vigorous trees are closer together, leave those. 15x15 is just a general guideline.

• Merchantable material- Merchantable material to be cut is marked in green. Volumes by Species are displayed below. Contract specs describe the guidelines for cutting/yarding this material.

o Volume by Species

White Fir = 470 MBF

Ponderosa Pine = 177 MBF

Douglas-fir = 24 MBF

Total = 671 MBF

• Stands- The stands are designated by letters and were chosen based on stand characteristics (tree size/location/etc.) Notice that stand F is very dense with small, merchantable trees, while stand H has more widely spaced sub-merchantable material spread throughout the stand. Stand diameter distributions by species are included below.

Snag Creation

• A total of 61 snags must be created throughout the area.

o Snags must be greater than 14” DBH. Do not select sugar pine or incense cedar. Species preference is white fir.

Road work

• Road maintenance (grading, ditching, culvert cleaning) is required on 2.5 miles of road. Road brushing is necessary as indicated on the map.

Products

• Merchantable material will be hauled and marketed according to contract specs, this material will be sold on a lump sum basis.

• Sawlog product value under Schedule B cannot be less than 10% of pond value. For this TO, 10% of pond value has been determined as:

DF - $78.00/mbf

PP - $30.60/mbf

WF - $52.30/mbf

• Sub merchantable material may be marketed to any of the product types described in the contract.

Please specify your plan for disposing of this material. This material will be sold on a scale basis with weight tickets.

• Merchantable material is defined as:

Schedule of Minimum Material Specifications

Species and Products Length Diameter

(inside bark at small end)

Net Scale

Logs of all species 8 feet 5 inches 33 1/3% of gross volume of any log segment

• Sub-merchantable is material that does not meet merchantable specifications as well as limbs, tops, and slash. If the contractor decides to biomass merchantable material as defined above, the material will not be included as biomass under the bid items. This material must be separated from logging slash and sub-merchantable material as the BLM does not pay to grind merchantable material.
