SCOPE OF WORK

1. GENERAL SCOPE

Merimere Water Filtration Plant is a 1.2 MGD facility built in 1963 with lagoon improvements in 2002. The lagoons are showing signs of deterioration that compromise treatment performance and environmental compliance related to flows.

The system consists of two lagoons, one about 5,300 ft2, and the other about 7,500 ft2.

Its primary function is to retain water treatment sludge and discharge clearer water through its underdrain system. Through the decades of sludge accumulation treatment volume has reduced even with biannual cleaning, scraping down into the sand. The underdrain system has become questionable of being completely functional, and liner deterioration may be leading to seepage.

The city believes the structural condition of embankments, inlet/outlet structures, and overflows are visually sound.

Rehabilitation of the liner and underdrain systems will help meet CTDEEP compliance standards.

The scope of this rehabilitation project is to remove and dispose of the sand/sludge layer, remove and repair the underdrain system for replacement, remove and reconstruct the access ramp, remove and dispose of the filter fabric, sand below and the geomembrane. Assure the gravel base is compacted and formed with no washouts or significant divots.

Reconstruction as original structure as per the two pages of Lenard Engineering Inc. Merimere W.T.W.

Disposal, April 16, 2007, D2 Details. (see Attachments D & E)

It is the intention of these specifications that the Contractor hereunder shall furnish, purchase, install geomembrane liners and cap material as designed and specified on a lump sum basis.

The Contractor shall provide a quote for the full installation of liner on a lump sum basis. Installation shall be in accordance with Engineer of Record’s design drawings and specifications. Contractor shall include full scope of work, inclusions, and exclusions.

**The City would prefer this project begins and is completed in conjunction with the Lagoon Rebuild Project to minimize Merimere Water Treatment Plant down time.**
